Vivek Ramaswamy lost himself in the moment on Saturday morning while rapping to Eminem’s “Lose Yourself.”

Ramaswamy spoke at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Gov. Kim Reynolds’ Fair-Side Talk at JR’s South Pork Ranch inside the Iowa State Fairgrounds. While taking photos with fans and attendees, Ramaswamy donned a red hat, grabbed a microphone and began playing Eminem’s “Lose Yourself.”

Earlier, he had told Reynolds that the 2002 hit was his favorite song to perform at political events.

The song won an Oscar in 2003 for Best Original Song in the movie “8 Mile” and was the first hip-hop song to win this award.

Ramaswamy has made reaching out to young voters a hallmark of his campaign. At 38, he is the youngest candidate seeking the Republican nomination. Friday night he had a meet and greet at Jalapeño Pete’s where he posed for selfies with young voters.

Katie Howard, 67, of Ottumwa, heard Ramaswamy speak for the fourth time Saturday morning. She volunteered at a campaign event at the fair on Friday, she said.

“It’s bringing young people into the campaign,” Howard said. “I worked in that booth for several hours and I’ve never seen so many young people take a political stand.”
