“One of the reasons for making him a special counsel supposedly is so he has the ability to charge in other places outside of Delaware,” Tapper said.

“But I think he had argued publicly before that he had the right to do whatever he wanted,” he continued. “And then the whistleblowers said, ‘Well, behind the scenes Weiss was complaining that she couldn’t do this.’ She wasn’t able to do it, and the Justice Department and Weis denied what the whistleblowers were saying.”

“But this move makes it look like, well, maybe the whistleblowers were right,” he added. “Maybe what they were saying is true. And I didn’t have the ability to charge where I wanted, and now I do. So I have a lot of questions about that. And I think some of the policy questions that the Republicans are raising have merit.”

IRS whistleblowers involved in the criminal tax investigation into Hunter Biden said Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss was in favor of bringing serious charges against Hunter Biden, but later reversed himself and offered a plea deal of “love” declaration that would allow the president’s son. to avoid prison. In late July, the plea deal was struck, and the charges and the felony weapons charge may go to trial.

US Code Statute 600.3 Special Counsel Qualifications stipulates that the person selected must be outside the US government.
