Oregon torture suspect dies after shooting himself during hours-long standoff: report

pA man accused of kidnapping and torturing an Oregon woman in January has reportedly died after shooting himself during an hours-long standoff Tuesday night, police said.

Benjamin Obadiah Foster, 36, was the subject of an intensive, 24-hour police manhunt after a woman was found unconscious, bound and near death in Grants Pass, Oregon, on January 24. She was hospitalized in critical condition. according to the Associated Press, and Foster was wanted for attempted murder, kidnapping and assault.

Foster died at the hospital from the self-inflicted gunshot wound, KDRV’s Brett Austin Taylor tweeted.

Police surrounded the home Tuesday where they believed Foster was hiding, police told CBS Radio. Foster was standing under the porch of the house where the woman was found.

Law enforcement previously said Foster was convicted in Nevada of holding another woman captive, and while on the run from the Oregon charges, he used dating apps to find new victims or people who could help him avoid the police.

As of Tuesday evening, police had said only that the confrontation with Foster was “resolved,” according to KTVL.

Police said Wednesday that a press conference will be held with more details.
