A 5-year-old boy has gone viral with millions of views online and on TV for his fledgling career as a preacher.
Luke Tillman is a 5-year-old boy from Flint, Michigan. Young Luke wants to be like his father, Ezra Tillman Jr., pastor of First Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Flint, Michigan.
From the age of three, Luke began preaching to his congregation: his toys in the living room of his home.
In late December, Tillman became an Internet star when one of his Instagram videos went viral. Luke got over 6 million views for a video of him christening one of his “Paw Patrol” toys named “Chase.”
The video was captioned: “Surprised my mom today. Told her all my toys had to be baptized…today was Chase’s day. Say amen to church.”
Tillman’s mother asked Luke, “Are you sure Chase wants to be baptized?”
Luke quickly replied, “Yes! He needs the Holy Spirit.”
Luke took Chase into the bathroom to baptize him in the tub. Luke started singing Nina Simone’s “Take Me to the Water.”
The 5-year-old raised his hand and said, “Obedience to the commandment, I baptize you in the name of the Father, the name of the Son, and the name of the Holy Spirit.”
Luke then dipped Chase into the water.
Luke now has over 105,000 followers on his Instagram account.
After the video went viral, Luke was invited to appear on “The Jennifer Hudson Show.”
On the daytime talk show, Luke talked about becoming a preacher, recited his favorite Bible passage John 3:16 and sang “Take Me to the Water” with the Grammy Award-winning singer.
Luke exclaimed, “When I grow up, I’m going to be a pastor and a Christian.”
When asked about his son following in his pastor’s footsteps, Ezra Tillman explained, “It’s a blessing. You know the pressure is always on PKs (pastor’s sons) and all that development. Because he if he decides he wants to do it and he really wants to do it, it’s a blessing.”
Luke’s proud father said of his son: “He preached to 20 million people in one week, I haven’t reached that in 20 years, and I’m very happy about that.”
Hudson advised the boy, “You’ve lifted us all up. You have an amazing calling in your life, so you keep doing what you’re doing, okay? And walking in God’s will. Will you?”
Luke replied, “I never forget God. Amen.”
Next month, Luke will release his own coloring book for children titled “Bible Adventures with Luke.”
