KJP baffled by Governor’s ban on public drag shows and transgender surgery for children

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is confused as to why any governor would ban public drag shows or ban gender reassignment surgery for children.

At Friday’s press conference, he chided Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee for signing a bill banning the practice.

“Tennessee’s governor signed two anti-LGBTQ bills into law Thursday, one that bans drag performances on public property, and another that bans most gender-affirming treatments for transgender youth. What What does the White House think of these laws? And is there anything you can do or plan to do about these laws?” asked a reporter.

“So I will say this, the American people are focused on so many issues,” he responded. “We’ve only talked about the economy. We’ve only talked about inflation. We’re talking about safer — safer communities and safer schools, and good health care, all the things you all ask me every day. And we all know that’s the that the American people care about.”

“That’s the thing, even when they went to the polls in November, those were the issues that mattered most to them,” he continued. “But instead of doing anything to address these real issues that affect the American people, right now you have a governor in Tennessee who has decided to go after drag shows. What’s the point of going after drag shows? ‘drag? How is this going to help people’s lives?’

On Thursday, the state of Tennessee passed a law banning drag shows on public property and near schools, making it the first of its kind in the country. The state also passed a bill banning gender transition surgeries on minors.

Most Americans do not support transgender surgeries or puberty blockers for minors, according to a May 2022 survey by the American Principles Project Foundation.

The survey asked respondents whether they would support a ban on puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and physical sex-change surgeries for children under 18.

The poll showed 56% of respondents said they would support a ban, while 34% said they would not. Just over a third of respondents identified as Democrats, while 37% identified as Republicans and just under a quarter identified as independents.

The American people understand why it is important to them to protect their children from destructive practices. Apparently, Karine Jean-Pierre does not.
