Julie Kelly, a political commentator and author, recently gave an update on the status of the political prisoners held in connection with the January 6th Capitol Hill riots. Speaking on Steve Bannon’s War Room: Pandemic podcast, Kelly slammed the judges handling the cases, calling out what she saw as a lack of justice and due process.
The discussion began with Bannon questioning the media coverage of the trials, asking Kelly whether she believed that the mainstream media was accurately portraying the situation. Kelly responded by criticizing the media’s handling of the issue, saying that they were “controlled by the same institutions that want to punish these people.”
Kelly went on to provide an update on some of the cases that have been making headlines recently. She discussed the case of Jacob Chansley, more commonly known as the “QAnon Shaman,” who recently received a 41-month prison sentence after being convicted of obstructing an official proceeding.
Kelly said that she was “disappointed” with the sentence, calling it “decidedly unjust” and arguing that the case against Chansley was “overblown” and lacked evidence. She pointed out that Chansley had already spent months behind bars, and that a long prison sentence was unnecessary.
Kelly also discussed the case of the Oath Keepers, a far-right extremist group whose members are facing a range of charges related to the Capitol riots. She criticized the judges involved in the case, accusing them of being biased against the defendants and of denying them their constitutional rights.
“The situation is really appalling,” Kelly said. “The judges are not following the law, they’re not following procedure, they’re not giving these people the rights that they deserve.”
Despite what she sees as a lack of justice in the cases, Kelly expressed optimism about the future, saying that she believed that the American people would eventually demand more accountability for those in power.
“I think we’re going to look back on this period and see that there was a lot of malfeasance, a lot of corruption, and a lot of people who acted outside of the law,” she said. “And I think that eventually, the truth will come out and justice will be served.”
Overall, Kelly’s comments on the War Room podcast illustrate the growing concern among some Americans about the state of the country’s justice system, particularly in relation to the handling of cases stemming from the January 6th riots.
