Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel raised the possibility of an “ultimatum” from Trump in an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash on Sunday. I will see:

“As I mentioned, your party announced that the first Republican debate will be in August in Milwaukee, Wisconsin,” Bash said. “Will candidates have to sign a pledge saying they will support whoever becomes a candidate to get on the debate stage?”

“We haven’t released the criteria, but I hope there’s some promise,” McDaniel replied. “It was part of 2016. I think it’s a bit of a no-brainer, isn’t it?”

“If you’re going on the Republican National Committee debate stage asking the voters to support you, you should say, I’m going to support the voters and whoever they choose as their candidate for chair of the RNC,” he continued. “If I said I would not support the Republican candidate, I would be removed from office. I would. They would properly impeach me, as part of our bylaws, and throw me out as RNC Chair. Anyone who steps onto the Republican National Committee debate stage should be able to say, “I will support the will of the voters and the eventual nominee of our party.”

“I want you to hear what former President Donald Trump said a couple of weeks ago in an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, about this very topic,” Bash said before playing a clip of Trump.

“If you’re not the nominee, are you going to support whoever the GOP nominee is?” asked Hewitt.

“It would depend,” Trump replied. “I would, I would give you the same answer I gave in 2016 during the debate ‘It would have to depend on who the nominee was.’

“So, are you willing to block the former president?” Bash asked McDaniel.

“He signed it in 2016. I know he did,” Ronna objected.

“But this is about the here and now,” Bash pressed. “He didn’t commit to it.”

“I think they’re all going to sign it,” McDaniel replied. “Really. I think the voters are very determined to win and they don’t want to see a debate stage where people say, ‘I’m not going to support this guy.’ I’m not going to support this guy. What they have to say is I will everything possible to defeat Joe Biden. And that means supporting the nominee of the Republican Party.”

“Can’t you see a scenario where Donald Trump skips the debate if he’s forced to sign something he says to support others?” Bash asked.

“I think he’s going to want to be on the debate stage, too,” McDaniel said. “I think President Trump would like to be on the debate stage. That’s what he likes to do, and I hope everyone will be there.”

McDaniel’s comments prompted some very interesting reaction on Twitter.

“And if he signs a pledge saying that if he doesn’t support MAGA, he’ll resign,” Truth Ninja retorted.

“Reminder…don’t give [any] money to RNC,” JCHICKY replied.

“We the people will leave,” said Tommy. “Have fun winning elections without voters.”

“We don’t want candidates to support just the party,” Alex Shepard added. “We don’t want party loyalty or party control, we want support for the Constitution, loyalty to the American people, government by the people, as intended.”

Here’s what the RNC doesn’t understand: Americans don’t support the Republican Party as an end in itself. They support it to try to do things for the benefit of the American people. This means holding government officials fully accountable for their actions and ending corruption and dysfunction in Washington.

The only Republican president in recent memory to keep his promises, put policies in place to build an economy that benefits all Americans, defund corrupt institutions like the World Health Organization and kept the nation out of foreign wars, was Donald J. .Trump.

This resonates far more with voters than empty promises to blindly support the Republican Party nominee, whoever that may be.
