Parts of Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in Florida experienced an unexpected closure after a black bear was spotted in one of the trees. The incident, which took place on Monday, is believed to be due to the bear’s search for food in preparation for the winter hibernation season.

Quickly responding to the situation, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) dispatched staff from its bear management program and law enforcement officers. Together, they successfully captured the adult female bear.

The FWC, in a statement, clarified, “Staff have captured the animal and are moving the bear out of the park to an area in or around the Ocala National Forest.” They also stressed that, in most circumstances, it’s best to give bears room to move. However, due to the unique nature of this event, the decision was made to capture and relocate it.

Visitors to the famous theme park suffered disruptions, with attractions including the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Hall of Presidents and the Walt Disney World Railroad temporarily closed. As a result, long queues formed which affected visitor experiences. By Monday afternoon, sections of the park, including Frontierland and Adventureland, were back up and running as efforts to relocate the bear continued.

NBC reports that aerial footage showed the bear, wrapped in a white tarp, being escorted by officials into a wooded area.
