CBP reports monthly records of Southwest land border encounters

The southern border of the United States continues to be inundated with a massive flow of migrants, with US Customs and Border Protection reporting a whopping 251,487 encounters at the southwest land border during the month of December 2022, a staggering total that , according to Bill Melugin of Fox News, represents the highest monthly total ever recorded.

“CBP sources tell FOX there were also over 70,000 known escapes at the border in December,” Melugin tweeted, noting that December is the 10th consecutive month that southern border encounters have exceeded 200,000.

“The December update shows that our new border enforcement measures are working. Although overall encounters increased due to smugglers spreading misinformation about the lifting of the Title 42 public health order for order, we continued to see a sharp decline in the number of Venezuelans illegally crossing our southwest border, down 82 percent from September 2022,” said CBP Acting Commissioner Troy Miller, according to a press release. “Early data suggests that the expanded measures for Cubans, Haitians and Nicaraguans are having a similar impact, and we look forward to sharing additional data in the next update.”

Adding the December figure of 251,487 to November’s 234,896 and October’s 231,277, the total for the first three months of fiscal year 2023 amounts to 717,660 Southwest land border encounters.

“10 straight months of over 200,000 migrant encounters at the southern border. Biden’s border crisis is out of control,” tweeted Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee.

“Every @HouseGOP should answer this question: You ran to secure the border, you have the majority, so what specifically are you willing to do to secure it?” Republican Rep. Chip Roy of Texas tweeted.
