It is no secret that the current President of the United States, Joe Biden, has been dubbed as an “empty suit” president. The term highlights the idea that he is nothing more than a mere figurehead, with little substance or authority to lead the country effectively. Unfortunately, this lack of significant leadership has had significant negative ramifications globally. Biden’s empty suit presidency is, in fact, resetting the world order, and not in a good way.

Chinese dictator, Xi Jinping, and Russian President, Vladimir Putin, have been known to seize every opportunity to undermine the US’s influence and power, and unfortunately, they have been presented with the golden opportunity to do as they please under the Biden Administration. The absence of effective leadership from the United States of America has resulted in the resurfacing of old geopolitical rivalries, which has led to a more competitive and hostile global order.

China, for instance, has taken advantage of this power vacuum by expanding its territorial claims, flouting international law, and ramping up its military presence in the South China Sea. The Chinese government has also taken steps to undermine US alliances in the Asia-Pacific region by forging closer relations with countries such as Russia and Iran.

Similarly, Russia under Putin has been more emboldened to challenge America’s interests in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. The Russian leader has been aggressive in his attempt to destabilize Ukraine and annex Crimea, while also supporting rogue regimes like Syria’s Bashar al-Assad.

The lack of strategic and cohesive foreign policy from the Biden administration has also resulted in the US’s failure to respond effectively to humanitarian crises globally. The situation in Afghanistan, for instance, is an excellent illustration of this lack of leadership. After two decades of war, the United States’ withdrawal from Afghanistan was poorly planned, and what followed was the rapid takeover of the country by the Taliban. The situation has resulted in a humanitarian crisis, with the Taliban committing gross human rights violations.

The absence of powerful US leadership in Afghanistan, coupled with the Taliban’s growing power, has created an atmosphere where terrorists and other extremist groups will take advantage of the chaos, putting global peace and security at risk. With the Taliban in control of Afghanistan, fears have emerged that terrorists will use the country as a base to launch attacks against the US and its allies.

In Biden’s defense, he inherited a difficult geopolitical situation from his predecessor, Donald Trump, who seemed more interested in pursuing his personal interests than America’s national interests. Regardless of this, Biden’s inability to provide strategic and coherent leadership has led to a power vacuum that is being filled by rival powers such as China and Russia.

In conclusion, Biden’s empty suit presidency is resetting the world order, and not in a good way. Unfortunately, the lack of leadership and strategic vision from the Biden administration has emboldened rival powers to pursue their interests more aggressively, leading to a more competitive and hostile global order. The situation in Afghanistan should serve as a wake-up call to the US government that they cannot underestimate the importance of strategic leadership and the impact that domestic politics can have on global affairs. The US must show its strength and purpose through its leadership as there is no time to lose.
