A tragic boating accident in the Florida Keys claims the life of a 15-year-old girl

A tragic incident occurred Saturday in the Florida Keys, when a 15-year-old girl, Ella Riley Adler, was fatally struck by a boat while water skiing in Key Biscayne near Nixon Beach. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), the vessel, described as a center console with a light blue hull, moved away from the scene after the collision.

Adler, who was wearing a life jacket and ski boards at the time of the accident, was celebrating a friend's birthday on a family boat. The FWC is currently searching for the captain of the boat, which was last seen traveling west from Nixon Beach. The boat is believed to have several white outboard engines and possibly blue or dark blue bottom paint.

In an effort to locate the boat and boater involved in the crash, authorities have announced a total reward of up to $20,000, including $5,000 from Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers. Witnesses have been asked to provide any information they may have to the FWC.

Adler was a freshman at Ransom Everglades School and an active member of its dance team. She had been cast as a dancer in The Nutcracker and had participated in more than 100 performances with the Miami City Ballet at the Adrienne Arsht Center. Her family described her as a vibrant young woman who loved dancing, her friends and her family. She was also very proud of her Jewish heritage, being the great-granddaughter of Holocaust survivors.

After the tragedy, Adler's friends and classmates left heartfelt tributes on his obituary page, expressing the profound impact he had on their lives. The private school he attended issued a statement recognizing Adler's contributions to the school community and expressing its condolences.

Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levina Cava also extended her condolences to the Adler family and urged the public to honor Adler's memory by exercising better boat security to prevent such tragedies in the future.
