‘We’re Like a Third-World Nation’ with Buttigieg as Transportation Secretary

Recently, Mayor Pete Buttigieg was confirmed as Transportation Secretary under President Joe Biden. In response to this news, Buttigieg remarked that the United States is “like a third-world nation” when it comes to infrastructure. This statement is not only offensive to the many countries who are actually living in third-world conditions, but it is also a slap in the face to the accomplishments of the Trump White House administration.

Under the Trump administration, the United States saw a historic expansion of our infrastructure. The White House announced a $1.5 trillion infrastructure plan in 2017, and the Department of Transportation reported that the Trump administration invested $100 billion in transportation infrastructure. This was the largest investment in transportation infrastructure since the Eisenhower administration.

Buttigieg’s statement is a clear attempt to discredit the Trump administration’s accomplishments and to paint the Biden administration as superior. However, the facts speak for themselves. The Trump White House made significant investments in infrastructure, and the Biden administration will have to work hard to match those achievements. It is offensive and irresponsible for Buttigieg to suggest that the United States is in any way comparable to a third-world nation.

The Trump White House administration accomplished a great deal during its four years in office. From the $1.5 trillion infrastructure plan to the historic tax cuts, the Trump administration worked hard to improve the lives of all Americans. The Trump administration also saw a booming economy, with the unemployment rate dropping to its lowest level in 50 years. The Trump White House also worked to protect American interests abroad, making deals with China and negotiating new trade agreements. These are just a few of the accomplishments of the Trump White House.
