Hoover Institution Senior Fellow Victor Davis Hanson warned Friday on Fox Business how the Republican Party could lose to Vice President Kamala Harris this November.
Hanson appeared on “The Bottom Line” to discuss Harris policies and whether former President Donald Trump has the ability to beat her as the race draws closer. The senior fellow stated that while Harris“Radical” political beliefs may benefit Trump, his team must focus on them, warning they cannot be swayed by “ethnicity or gimmicks.”
Fox Business co-host Dagen McDowell began by asking Hanson if he thought the former president could “Dukakis” Harris, referring to the 1988 election in which former President George W. Bush ended up winning despite his opponent, former candidate for Democratic President Mike Dukakis was ahead of the polls.
“This will be the central theme of the campaign. Because for one thing, they are not one or two years old, they are only 90 days old and she will not be allowed, as Biden was not allowed in 2022, to do anything but teleprompted speeches in front of receptive audiences. ” Hanson said. “They don't have time to go down all these cul-de-sacs about ethnicity or giggles, all that. They have to go straight to the point and that is to draw from all these things that they said.”
“The good news he never got in his life spoke to an opposing audience. He ran for state office in California, he ran in the Bay Area, he had aborted a brief primary run against a left-leaning audience. In all of these cases, his goal was to be the furthest left of the stage in a left-leaning environment,” Hanson continued. “It's not that she said all these things, she said them with emphasis, she downplayed them [and] he emphasized that she was a radical. It's all the last 20 years on record.”
Hanson continued to call out what Trump's team will have to do in the race as he singled out Harris' “word salad” during an interview with reporters last night.
I WILL SEE:
“It will be up to the Trump campaign to find them all, document them, broadcast them and force reporters to ask him about them. The only time he's had an unscripted moment, and it was only on the tarmac with Biden the other night. In 60 seconds he did exactly what his handlers fear, he melted into that word salad: wash, rinse, spin,” Hanson said.
“That's what Trump has to do and anything he can do will be favorable. He has to look at the 1988 campaign when Dukakis was 17 points ahead on August 1. Of course, they had someone named Lee Atwater, who demonstrated how to do it and destroyed the image, or the mystique, or I guess it's the fantasy, that Mike Dukakis was just competition and a technocrat,” Hanson said. “And he redefined him as a tough Massachusetts liberal, and he was a much more effective executive or politician than Kamala Harris. So they can do it, but they don't have a lot of time.”
Following Biden's announcement to end his re-election bid, Harris received an outpouring of support from fellow lawmakers, donors and other political figures. While the Vice President passing grade it doesn't seem to have improved, the polls between her and the former president show a very close race for this November.
In a recent survey by The Economist/YouGov done Between July 27 and July 30, of 1,610 US adults, 46% said they would support Harris, leaving Trump trailing by 2 points at 44% and the remaining 10%, whether cast in a other candidate, would abstain from voting or was still undecided, according to the data. .
However, the margin of error within the poll is notably +/- 3.3% for weight-adjusted data and +/- 3.1% for registered voters, according to the poll.
