Florida deputies ambushed, 1 dead, 2 others shot during rescue attempt [VIDEOS]

A devastating incident unfolded in Lake County, Florida, when a brave sheriff's deputy lost his life and two others were injured in what the sheriff described as a deliberate “ambush” at a residence in Eustis.

The incident unfolded Friday evening, prompting a quick response from law enforcement to the scene on Brookside Drive.

Lake County Sheriff Peyton C. Grinnell detailed the harrowing events at a press conference early Saturday. “They were ambushed,” Grinnell stated grimly. “We lost one tonight.”

Deputies had arrived at approximately 8:00 p.m., responding to reports of a disturbance. When they entered the house, the violence escalated sharply.

The first officer to enter the home was immediately shot and trapped inside, eventually succumbing to his injuries.

In a desperate attempt to rescue his colleague, two more deputies were shot; one suffered injuries to his armpit and stomach and is now in critical condition, while the other was hit in the shoulder and is in a stable condition.

Inside the home, authorities discovered two people dead, although it is still unclear whether their deaths were the result of actions taken by deputies or a murder-suicide scenario.

An additional person at the scene was hospitalized, although details of their condition or involvement are not yet clear.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has begun an investigation to determine the sequence of events that led to this fatal encounter.
