Trump allies respond after DeSantis slams MAGA as ‘listless vessels’

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has taken scorching heat from proponents of the nationwide MAGA movement after suggesting that President Donald Trump’s supporters were “listless vessels” during an interview with The Florida Standard last week.

DeSantis stated:

“We have a strand in our party that views supporting Trump as whether you are a RINO or not. So, you could be the most conservative person since sliced bread, [but] unless you’re kissing his rear-end, they will somehow call you a RINO…you’re not rooted in principle, if all you are is just listless vessels that’s just supposed to follow, you know, whatever happens to come down the pike on Truth Social every morning.”

DeSantis’s comments drew criticism from Trump allies and the official Trump team, who viewed the governor’s attacks on the president’s supporters as ill-worded.

Trump ally and conservative figure Kari Lake wrote on X, “Hey Ron, We aren’t ‘listless vessels.’ We are citizens from all backgrounds and all walks-of-life who are laser-focused on Saving America.”

Official MAGA Inc. spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt added, “Instead of issuing an immediate apology, Team DeSantis has spent the last 24 hours doubling down on his insult to Trump supporters. Ron DeSantis should stop hiding behind spokespeople and address this himself. Every hour that passes further underscores the contempt DeSantis has for the voters who made him Governor. Perhaps he is waiting for another memo from Never Back Down to tell him what to do.”

DeSantis’s remarks, however, have not dampened Trump supporters’ loyalty to the president’s 2024 bid for reelection. In fact, Trump’s numbers are higher than ever in GOP primary polling nationwide. According to a new poll from CBS, the president is up by a whopping 46 points over DeSantis among likely GOP primary voters.

Popular conservative social media account “Catturd” on X joked, “The listless vessels are 40 points up in every state.”
