The latest report from the Institute of Economics and Peace estimates it in 2022, 6,701 deaths were caused by terrorism worldwide.

As Statista’s Martin Armstrong points out, despite this high number, this is 38 percent below the level recorded in 2015 and represents a 9 percent decrease from 2021.

Deaths in 2022 occurred in 42 countries, with 121 of the countries included in the report reporting no deaths, the highest number since 2007.

Afghanistan is considered the most affected country in the world.

However, as stated in the report:

“Terrorism is dynamic and, although the global change of the last three years has been minimal, there has been some sharp rises and falls in terrorism in many countries during this period, particularly in Niger, Myanmar and Iraq.

Globally, the deadliest terrorist group last year was the Islamic State (IS), with 1,045 attributed deaths and 644 people injured in 410 recorded attacks.
