Special counsel Jack Smith is poised to indict former President Donald J. Trump for his alleged role in the Jan. 6 riots “as soon as tomorrow,” according to a new report from CBS News.
“If there is an indictment here in Washington DC on the January 6th special counsel investigation, it could come as soon as tomorrow at 1:00 PM Eastern when the grand jury is here in the courthouse,” CBS reported.
“The Jan. 6 grand jury typically convenes on Tuesdays and Thursdays,” the report added. “The magistrate judge usually sits at 1 p.m. ET to hear his case. That’s the earliest it could happen, but there’s certainly no date on the calendar. There’s no sure date. There’s no allegation that’s true. All we could say is the target letter that Trump acknowledged and announced and that we’ve confirmed is an indication that federal prosecution is likely, if not imminent. You want to measure this in days and weeks, not months and years.”
Trump’s indictment, if special counsel Jack Smith decides to indict the former president this week, would come at a time of growing trouble for President Joe Biden, who is facing growing scrutiny over his ties to Hunter Biden’s illicit businesses.
Hunter Biden’s former best friend and business partner, Devon Archer, is expected to testify before Congress this week, revealing that Hunter would include his father, then-Vice President Joe Biden, in meetings with his overseas business partners over the speakerphone.
Archer is expected to share instances where Joe Biden was physically present or connected via speakerphone while Hunter introduced him to foreign business partners and potential investors, New York Post reporter Miranda Devine reported Sunday afternoon.
Archer’s testimony would shed light on the relationship between Joe Biden and his son’s businesses and the involvement of foreign partners.
In the midst of this scenario where President Biden could be credibly accused of participating in an international bribery ring could come another indictment of his 2024 primary rival, Donald Trump, by the armed Justice Department.
The Justice Department’s corrupt indictment of the presidential candidate would be the ultimate election interference. It presents more of a threat to democracy than January 6 itself.
