President Joe Biden's decision not to run for re-election has thrust Vice President Kamala Harris into the political spotlight.
As the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, Harris has been on a low-key tour trying to salvage her reputation as one of the Less popular vice presidents.

Yet his stops across the country rarely seem to take place in front of reporters, prompting Republican opponents to wonder why he's gone into hiding.
Appearing in CNN's The Source with Kaitlan Collins On Wednesday, July 31, Sen. Tom Cotton said it was “refreshing” to see Republican nominee Donald Trump face tough questions in reference to his appearance before the National Association of Black Journalists earlier in the week.
“It turned out to be a hostile and adversarial interview, but he's been doing it for nine years. Meanwhile, Kamala Harris has been in hiding for the 10 days she's been running for president,” Senator Cotton said.
The discussion turned into controversial comments by the former president in which he said he “didn't know” she was black amid allegations who has changed his preferred ethnicity for electoral benefits.
“Four years ago, Joe Biden said, 'if you don't vote for him, you're not black,' can you imagine a more insulting comment?” Cotton asked. “Joe Biden brags about judging the political views of one-eighth of our citizens based on the color of their skin; did you ever ask Kamala Harris to condemn his comments?”
The conversation continued after a war of words between Cotton and Collins (below)
Cotton was referring to a memorable debate moment where Harris implied that Biden was racist right after he said he didn't think he was racist in a 2020 Democratic debate.
“So on the issue of race, I couldn't agree more that this is an issue that is still not being talked about truthfully and honestly. I don't know a single black man, whether it's a family member, a friend, or a co-worker who hasn't been the subject of some type of profiling or discrimination,” Harris said during the debate. “And I will also say that in this campaign, we have also sense, and I will now turn it over to Vice President Biden. I don't think you're a racist and I agree with you when you commit to the importance of finding common ground.”
He then added, “You also worked with them to oppose busing. And you know, there was a little girl in California who was part of the second class to integrate her public schools and she was bused every day to school, and that girl was me. So I'll tell you, it can't be an intellectual debate between Democrats. We have to act fast,” Harris added.
In the exchange, he also criticized Biden, telling him it was “hurtful” to “hear you talk about the reputations of two United States senators who built their reputations and careers on racial segregation in this country.” . He was referring to Biden working with two former segregationists, Senators James Eastland and Herman Talmadge. Biden commented in 2019 that there were “at least some civility” when working with them.
