Philadelphia Teen Arrested on Terrorism Charges ⋆ Conservative Firing Line

A 17-year-old Philadelphia teen was arrested on several terrorism-related charges, according to the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office on Monday. The teen was not named, since he is a juvenile, but the DA’s office may ask a judge to move him to adult court. He is charged with Weapons of Mass Destruction, Criminal Conspiracy, Arson, Causing/Risking Catastrophe, Attempt to Commit Criminal Mischief, Possession of an Instrument of Crime, and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.

He was in the process of building improvised explosive devices with several undisclosed targeted locations “that were not just in Philadelphia,” FBI Special Agent in Charge Jacqueline Maguire said during Monday’s press conference.

“Most concerning was the evidence to his access to firearms and was purchasing items and materials commonly for constructing improvised explosive devices,” Maguire said. “Among the items he purchased were tactical equipment, wiring, chemicals and devices often used as the detonators.”

The purchases were made in the last couple of weeks, which quickly escalated this case, Maguire said. Fox Digital

The teen was in communication with Katibat al Tawhid wal Jihad, or KTJ- a known al-Qaeda linked group in Syria that is designated as global terrorists. He allegedly not only received terrorist propaganda, he planned to go overseas to physically join the group.

The Philadelphia teen had a Whatsapp account that originally had a banner that belonged to a Chechen terrorist group, but the profile picture was changed on August 6 to one of ISIS.

Philadelphia DA Larry Krasner praised the arrest and promised to “pursue full accountability.”

“The charges we have filed against this individual represent the most serious alleged terrorist activity prosecuted in Philadelphia County court in recent history. We intend to pursue full accountability for these crimes and will continue to work vigilantly with our law enforcement partners to protect all of our communities from hateful, ideologically driven acts of violence.” Larry Krasner, Philadelphia District Attorney

Which would be a switch since Krasner is well known for letting people off for serious crimes. But we’ll see.

The DAO statement included:

”The juvenile is further alleged to have received messages related to construction of improvised explosive devises (IEDs) and to have purchased materials online such as chemical cleaners that are used to construct IEDs, as well as outdoor or tactical gear.

On August 7, 2023, FBI special agents surveilling the juvenile observed him purchasing materials that can be used to make IEDs, and recovered from his household trash materials including electric wiring that can be used to construct IEDs.

On August 8, 2023, U.S. Customs and Border Protection provided records revealing 14 international shipments of military and tactical gear to the juvenile’s address.

A warrant for the juvenile’s arrest was approved on August 11, 2023. The juvenile was apprehended and two residences tied to him were searched by federal agents. DAO statement

Police and FBI were seen packing out boxes and boxes of evidence. Witnesses stated the police/Swat/FBI arrived on Friday, which created some pandemonium in the neighborhood.
