A Colorado man is now facing a slew of serious charges, including attempted murder, after he allegedly crashed his pickup truck into the lobby of a police station on purpose.
At 12:30 pm on Wednesday afternoon, a gray 2007 Chevrolet Silverado drove through the glass entrance of the police station in Grand Junction, Colorado. Grand Junction Police shared surveillance footage of the shocking crash on their YouTube account:

In the moments after the crash, an armed police officer can be seen entering the lobby and barking instructions at the driver. The suspect, 45-year-old Nathan David Chacon, followed orders and was immediately arrested. Although at least 11 employees were in the area beyond where the truck eventually came to a stop, no one, not even the suspect, was injured in the incident.
The probable cause affidavit, written by Officer Bryce Raber, offered interesting details that help give more context to the incident. In recent years, Chacon has made “at least 90” calls to the department regarding “strange occurrences,” which ultimately turned out to be “unfounded,” the affidavit states. According to Raber, Chacon had apparently become “frustrated” by the police’s lack of response in recent days, swearing at officers on the phone and then hanging up on them.
After Chacon was arrested, he waived his Miranda rights and began speaking with Raber without an attorney present. During that conversation, Chacon allegedly stated that he intended to leave Grand Junction that day, but changed course because he was “being followed” by several cars, causing him to become “paranoid.”
“[The suspect] advised as he pulled into the parking lot he didn’t want to get killed so he chose to drive into the lobby,” the affidavit continued. “As Nathan told me this, he advised he knew it was silly, but he knew what he was doing you have to do to be heard.”
After reviewing security camera footage of the crash, Raber insisted that “it was clear that there was no doubt, stopping or slowing down before the truck turned directly into the main lobby doors, accelerate and go through two sets of metal doors with bulletproof glass.”
Typically, Raber said, the lobby has several local residents inside who call the police for help for a variety of reasons. Fortunately, no one was there at the time of the accident, although several benches located in the lobby to accommodate these visitors were destroyed. The affidavit estimated that the accident caused between $100,000 and $1 million in damages.
Chacon has been charged with attempted first degree murder, first degree assault with extreme recklessness, attempted vehicular homicide by reckless driving, vehicular assault while driving recklessly, criminal mischief over $100,000 and under of 1 million dollars. , and reckless endangerment. He is currently being held in the Mesa County Jail on $250,000 bond. It is unclear when he is scheduled to appear in court.
