Our self-inflicted catastrophe at the border › American Greatness

Since the beginning of 2021 we have witnessed between 7 and 8 million illegal entries at the now non-existent US southern border.

The more the border disappeared, the more inert federal immigration law became, and the more National Security Alejandro Mayorkas fantasizes that the “border is secure.” He is now dismissed as a true “Baghdad Bob” propagandist.

But how and why did the Biden administration destroy immigration law as we knew it?

The Trump administration’s initial efforts to close the border had been continually obstructed in Congress, sabotaged by the administrative state, and stymied in the courts. However, it had finally secured the border in early 2020.

However, almost all of his successful initiatives were immediately canceled in 2021.

The wall came to an abrupt halt, its projected trajectory nullified. The disastrous Obama-era “catch and release” policy of immigration non-enforcement resurrected.

Previous successful pressure on Mexican President Andrés Obrador to stop the deliberate export of its own citizens to the north ceased.

Federal Border Patrol agents were forced to resign.

New federal subsidies were given to attract and then support illegal arrivals.

No one in the Democratic Party opposed the destruction of the border or the subversion of immigration law.

However, things changed somewhat once southern border states began transporting or flying a few thousand of their illegal immigrants north to sanctuary city jurisdictions, particularly in New York, Chicago and even on Martha’s Vineyard.

The sanctuary city “humanists” who had given the green light to illegal immigration in the southern states suddenly cried out. They were furious after experiencing the concrete consequences of their own earlier abstract border agendas. After all, his nihilism was always supposed to fall on others aloof and ridiculed.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams went from celebrating a few dozen illegal immigrants bussed into Manhattan to blowing up his own party by allowing tens of thousands of people to swarm his city now in bankruptcy

But Because Did the Biden administration deliberately trigger the largest influx at the southern border in US history?

Ethnic chauvinists and Democratic Party elites needed new voters, given their increasingly unpopular agendas.

They feared that the more legal Latino immigrants assimilated and integrated into American society, the less happy they became with radical left-wing abortion, racial, transgender, criminal, and environmental fixations.

Big Democrats always boasted that illegal immigration would create what they called “The New Democratic Majority” in a “Demographics is Destiny” way. Now they caulk critics as “racists” who oppose the left’s efforts to use illegal immigration to turn red states in the Southwest blue.

Now Mexico cannot survive as a modern state without some $60 billion in annual remittances sent by its expatriates to America. But many illegal immigrants rely on US state and federal rights to free up cash to send home.

Mexico also encourages its own poor and often indigenous southern Mexicans to head north as a sort of safety valve. The government sees these mass exodus to the north as preferable to the march of the downtrodden to Mexico City to address grievances of poverty and racism.

Criminal cartels now de facto run Mexico. An open border allows them to ship fentanyl north, make billions in profit, and kill nearly 100,000 Americans a year. Illegal immigrants pay cartels billions extra to facilitate their border crossings.

Don’t forget American businessmen. The record of non-participation in work followed the confinement of the Covid. In reaction to the shortage of American workers, the hospitality, meatpacking, social services, health care, and agriculture industries were desperate to hire new, much cheaper labor.

Human rights activists insist that the borders themselves are relics of the 19th century. And the poor and oppressed of the world therefore have the human right to enter the rich West by any means necessary.

Many in tony suburbs and universities don’t live near the border. So they pontificate on the assurance that thousands of unvetted illegal immigrants will never enter their own enclaves or campuses.

The result is elite bottled-up piety, but no first-hand experience with the natural consequences of millions of people chaotically fleeing one of the world’s poorest countries to pour into the richest. Without background checks, vaccinations and health audits, legality, high school diplomas, English language facilities, skill sets or capital, the result is an abject catastrophe.

Polls continue to show that the American people support measured, diverse, legal and meritocratic immigration as much as they oppose mass illegal immigration into their country and the resulting loss of American sovereignty at the border.

They understand what the Biden administration does not: No nation has ever survived in history once its borders were destroyed, once its citizenry became indistinguishable from mere residence, and once its neighbors undermined with impunity his sovereignty

Ending illegal immigration now depends only on the American people prevailing on corrupt special interests and leaders who profit from today’s chaos and human misery.
