RALEIGH (LifeSiteNews) – North Carolina Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper vetoed a trio of Republican-backed transgender and minor bills on Wednesday, setting up another veto-override showdown with the Republican legislature.
The first bill prohibits surgical or chemical “gender transition” procedures from being administered to people under the age of 18. The second excludes middle and high school men, as well as college sports teams specifically for women and girls. The third bans LGBT material from school curricula and requires parents to be notified if their children begin to identify as the opposite sex.
Cooper vetoed all three measures Wednesday, WRAL reportsaccusing Republicans of “using government to invade the rights and responsibilities of parents and doctors, hurt vulnerable children, and damage our state’s reputation and economy as they did with the damaging bathroom bill.”
