In a recent development surrounding the tragic incident at Covenant School, shocking details have emerged from Audrey Elizabeth Hale's diary. Hale, a biological woman who identified as a transgender man at the time of the attack on March 27, 2023, had written a three page entry entitled “My Imaginary Penis”, which was recovered from his vehicle.
The Tennessee Star has obtained nearly four dozen pages of Hale's writings from a source associated with the Covenant investigation, shedding light on his thoughts and desires leading up to the unfortunate event.

Hale's journal entry begins with a crude drawing under the heading “My Imaginary Penis”. In explicit language, he expresses his longing for a male anatomy, specifically desiring it for heterosexual relations with a woman.
Although the content of the entry is sexually explicit, there are other significant aspects to note. Hale mentions her experience adopting the name Aiden during her transition, which caused problems during a job application process due to background checks. She also describes her upbringing as a girl as “torture,” fearing judgment during high school, but finding release in college and eventually learning about being transgender in her 20s.
Hale writes about her mother being opposed to the idea of her transitioning, citing conservative views and a lack of understanding of LGBTQ issues. He laments his mother's attachment to seeing her as a daughter, expressing concern that becoming a son would mean losing Audrey.
“I hate parents' opinions; how my mother sees me as a daughter, and I couldn't bear to want to lose that daughter because a son would be the death of Audrey.”
In the later pages of the entry, Hale criticizes her parents for their alleged lack of support while also referencing the introduction of puberty blockers in 2007. She expresses her desire for resources available to non-conforming transgender children, lamenting the onset of puberty earlier. the availability of these treatments.
“I would kill to have these resources; 2007 was the birth of puberty blockers and a new discovery for the treatment of non-conforming transgender children… I was in 6th grade, puberty already hit me.”
Most disturbingly, Hale reveals his fantasies related to his stuffed animals, simulating intercourse as a man. He mentions photographing these representations, losing track of time and neglecting other activities, noting a sense of guilt and waste.
“I can pretend to be them [and] do the things boys do [and] Experiencing my son as Tony … stuffed doll … is like the child I am in another form.”
It's important to note that Hale wrote this entry just 16 days before the tragic attack at Covenant School, claiming the lives of three 9-year-old students and three adults.
