Meth Head's chemical bomb explodes in deputy's face during traffic stop [VIDEOS]

Putnam County, Florida – A man has been arrested and charged with several felonies after a chemical bomb exploded while an officer was searching his vehicle. Charles Legault, who had been arrested because of a license plate that was not assigned to the vehicle, is being held without bail. Legault reportedly faces charges of possession of an explosive, aggravated battery, trafficking in methamphetamine, and illegal possession of a gun silencer. Along with those charges, he now also faces charges of failing to cooperate with investigators.

When the officer was searching the truck, a pipe bomb exploded and he was rushed to the hospital. However, he was released later that day, only to reveal the extent of the incident. Legault had a gun silencer that was not registered with the ATF, two handguns, 20 rounds of ammunition and methamphetamine when he was searched. Crime and Security analyst Tom Hackney expressed concern about the incident. Hackney noted that given all the red flags that were mentioned, investigators will dig deeper.

News4JAX has revealed that the explosive device was created so that there were bits of chlorine on one side and brake fluid on the other. A valve separated the two sides, and when turned, the contents would mix and release a poisonous gas before exploding. The device had the words “secure” and “armed” written on it, indicating to investigators that Legault had criminal intent to cause harm. The deputy may have accidentally moved the valve when touching the device, causing the explosion. Investigating agents have noted that given the recent historical events surrounding April, investigators will look into Legault's life to make sure he was not planning an attack. Windy conditions during the day may have diluted the toxic gas, leading to less severe damage to the MP's respiratory system.

As the investigation continues, the video of the explosion is being withheld because the case is under investigation. Charles Legault is currently being held without bail and is fighting the charges before him. With the number of red flags raised during this incident, investigators will no doubt look into any possible wrongdoing or alternative motives that may be hiding.
