Hunter Biden faces tax evasion charges: A breakdown of the allegations

Hunter Biden, President Biden's son, faces nine charges related to a four-year tax evasion scheme and the filing of false tax returns from January 2017 to October 2020. The charges, which including three felonies and six misdemeanors, are linked to $1.4 million. in taxes due that have been paid since then. Prosecutors allege that during this period, Biden spent millions on an extravagant lifestyle instead of paying his taxes.

In 2018, Biden failed to pay his outstanding and past due taxes for fiscal year 2015. When he filed his 2018 returns, he allegedly included false business deductions to evade tax assessment and reduce its substantial tax obligations.

He also claimed approximately $388,810 in business-related travel in 2018, but failed to disclose this to his accountants.

The memos also describe how Biden paid for an entourage of individuals who stuck with him, including “thieves, drug addicts, petty dealers, strippers, con artists and various hangers-on.” The indictment cites these details to highlight the lack of business activity during his stays at luxury hotels and private rentals in Malibu, Beverly Hills and Hollywood.

Biden's defense attorney, Abbe Lowell, has criticized the charges, accusing the special counsel of “bowing to Republican pressure.” Lowell argues that if Biden's last name was not Biden, these charges would not have been filed.
