Fetterman ‘continues on road to recovery’: Communications Director

Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, who checked himself into the hospital earlier this month for treatment for depression, “continues on the road to recovery,” according to a statement Monday from his communications director Joe calvello

“We don’t have much to update people on as there is no real news to report except that John is doing well, working with the wonderful doctors and on the road to recovery,” Calvello said. “He visits with staff and family daily, and his staff keeps him up to date on Senate business and news.” Calvello also noted, “Like we said, this is going to be a weeks-long process, and while we’ll make sure to keep people updated as we go along, that’s all there is to give by way of an update “.

Fetterman, who suffered a stroke in May 2022 and had a pacemaker with an implanted defibrillator, defeated Republican candidate Mehmet Oz in the US Senate race in Pennsylvania. Fetterman has experienced auditory processing problems following the stroke.

Earlier this month, Fetterman was taken to George Washington University Hospital after experiencing a seizure, but the lawmaker was later released — Calvello noted in a statement that “in addition to the CT, CTA and MRI tests that rule out a stroke, the results of his EEG test. returned to normal, no signs of seizures.”

But less than a week later, Fetterman checked into Walter Reed National Military Medical Center due to clinical depression.

The senator’s wife, Gisele Fetterman, tweeted that “when the news broke, the kids were out of school and media trucks surrounded our house. I did the first thing I could think of. ..pack them in the car and drive.”

“We went straight to…Canada (and lovely Buffalo NY),” she wrote. “We did some scary things, but we did them together. We zip-lined over Niagara Falls and August got stuck,” she said. “We talked about flexibility and the need to always have an open heart and an open mind,” he noted. “We also talked about how joy and fun can and should still exist, even when someone we love is hurting,” she wrote.
