EcoHealth Alliance, a research organization dedicated to protecting global health, recently received a $3 million grant from the Pentagon to conduct research on “weapons of mass destruction” (WMD). The grant was awarded as part of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency’s (DTRA) Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) program.
The grant will be used to fund EcoHealth Alliance’s research into the development of diagnostics, detection, and defense technologies to protect against the threat of WMDs. Specifically, the grant will support the development of a “biosurveillance platform” that uses artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to detect and identify WMDs. The platform will be able to detect and identify WMDs in multiple forms, including biological, chemical, and radiological.
EcoHealth Alliance’s research will be conducted in partnership with the U.S. Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security, and other government agencies. The grant will also support the development of a “rapid response” system that can be used to quickly identify and respond to potential WMD threats.
The grant is part of the Pentagon’s efforts to strengthen its defenses against the threat of WMDs. According to the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, the grant will help “enhance the U.S.’s ability to detect, identify, and respond to WMDs in a timely manner.”
