France’s radiation watchdog has banned sales of Apple’s ( AAPL.O ) iPhone 12 after tests it said showed the smartphone breached European limits radiation exposure.
The Agence Nationale des Frequences (ANFR) said on Tuesday that the model’s specific absorption rate (SAR), a measure of the rate of radio frequency energy absorbed by a piece of equipment’s body, was higher than allowed legally
Jean-Noel Barrot, France’s digital economy minister, told Le Parisien newspaper that a software update could fix the problem. If Apple doesn’t fix the problem, the ANFR said it would order the recall of the device in France.
Apple disputes the watchdog’s findings, saying the iPhone 12 was certified by several international bodies as compliant with global radiation standards.
