Violet Affleck calls for mask mandate after post-viral condition

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner's daughter Violet Affleck is making her voice heard.

The 18-year-old spoke out against the mask ban in an impassioned speech at a meeting of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.

While advocating for the availability of masks, free, high-quality COVID-19 testing and “mask mandates at county medical facilities,” Violet revealed that she “contracted a post-viral condition in 2019.”

The high school graduate noted, “I'm fine now, but I saw firsthand that medicine doesn't always have answers to the consequences of even minor viruses. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted that.

“One in 10 infections leads to long-term COVID, which is a devastating neurological disorder [and] cardiovascular diseases that can rob people of their ability to work, move, see and even think,” he continued, before concluding with a “demand” to “oppose the ban on masks for any reason.”

The eldest son of Affleck and Garner explained, “They don't keep us safer, they make vulnerable members of our community less safe, and they make everyone less able to participate together in Los Angeles.”

Violet, which is often photographed wearing a face cap while with their parentsshe wore a face mask and floral dress during her speech at the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration.

While some social media users criticized the teenager's testimony, others called her an “incredible leader and role model.”

One wrote“I am showing this to my 7 and 9 year old girls as a great example of a smart, thoughtful, confident young woman 1) doing what she knows is right, even in the face of massive societal pressure to yield 2) using their voice and privilege for the greater good.”

Another pointed out which was “extremely impressive how it fit into… a minute”.

Garner, 52, has publicly praised Violet as being “totally in charge” of her future, telling Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos in November 2023 that she acted “like a champ” as her high school graduation approached.

“She's a self-starter,” the actress tearfully told “Live with Kelly and Mark” viewers. “And I'm proud of her no matter what.”

Pupil 'Alias' and Ben, who are also parents to Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12, celebrated with a June graduation party.

Even Jennifer Lopez attended the party – although, briefly – despite her and Ben's the impending divorce.

While Violet's university plans Unconfirmed, she hinted that she will be a future student at Yale University when she posed in a revealing hoodie for a recent photo.

Before going to school in Connecticut, Violet has spent the summer Going out with López and his parents.
