UK riots: Map reveals extent of violence and looting as major cities across the country descend into chaos amid fallout from Southport stabbing tragedy

-

Britain has erupted into chaos this week after violent riots have taken hold of the country, leaving police officers with broken bones, buildings set on fire and shops looted.

This weekend, dozens of protests were planned across Britain with police forces on standby for more scenes of disruption.

It comes as the country has been engulfed by a week of violent riots, sparked by the Southport stabbing frenzy at a Taylor Swift-themed dance party left three little girls dead on Monday.

By Tuesday violent protesters and members of the far-right descended on the streets of the Merseyside town, surrounding a local Mosque after misinformation spread that the killer had been a migrant who arrived on a small boat.

Since then more anarchy has been seen across the country – with many gathering in London on Wednesday for a protest outside Whitehall.

And this weekend there have been further planned protests and eruptions of violence with anti-immigration protests taking place in Belfast, Manchester and Leeds, to name a few.

In the last 48 hours alone, police forces have arrested more than 100 people as they try and grapple with the unprecedented levels of anarchy.

And this afternoon more protests kicked off in Rotherham with an angry mob setting fire to a Holiday Inn Hotel where migrants stay. More are also expected in Rushmoor, Weymouth, Middlesborough and Lancaster this afternoon.

MailOnline looks at all the violent protests that have taken place since Friday night.

Sunderland

Sunderland became subjected to carnage on Friday night when riots tore through the city.

A police station was set on fire and many officers were injured with two being taken to hospital.

Violent blows were dealt between officers and protestors, as bricks and beer cans were flung through the air, and cars were flipped and set alight.

Among the hundreds taking to the street in the north east town was a shirtless man with a Nazi tattoo emblazoned across his chest.

The topless man was filmed launching into a racist tirade, saying: ‘This time in your own f***ing country if you’re ashamed to be f***ing white and be an Englishman… f*** off.’

Meanwhile an officer desperately fighting to maintain order as the violence spiralled out of control admitted: ‘That was bad tonight.’

Since then, at least 12 arrests have been made by Northumbria Police who dramatically smashed down the front door of a suspected rioter yesterday.

Belfast

On Saturday, riots broke out in Belfast with eyewitnesses claiming protesters were chanting ‘Islam out’.

Yobs shamelessly set fire to Middle Eastern food stores and smashed benches outside cafes to the ground during the anti-immigration protest.

A number of burnt out cars were seen on the road as officers tried to deal with the disorder in the Donegall Road area.

Supermarket manager Bashir’s business was extensively damaged by fire, telling reports the Islamic community in the city was being targetted.

He said: ‘People attacked this place, racism against Islam and Muslims, especially the Muslim community.’

Bristol

In Bristol on Saturday, hundreds of far-right thugs turned up near Castle Park throwing bottles, smashing windows and getting into aggressive stand-offs with the police.

Protesters sang Rule Britannia, ‘England ’til I die’ and ‘we want our country back’, with their actions being described as nothing more than ‘thuggery’.

Meanwhile, a counter protester from an anti-racism demonstration, was reportedly hit on the back of the head with a bottle.

Police made 14 arrests because of violent disorder in the city centre, which Avon and Somerset Police described as ‘completely unacceptable’.

Manchester

Major violence unfolded in Manchester on Saturday when a huge brawl broke out before being swiftly broken up by police officers wielding batons after a man allegedly threw a flare.

Protesters tore down fences to hurl at other demonstrators as police put themselves between rival groups.

Footage shows men clutching cups of alcohol shouting and jeering as others jumped into a jumbled fight, each side grappling one another and ripping clothing.

Hundreds of counter-protesters had gathered at Piccadilly Gardens to face off with Enough is Enough members.

Police were forced to separate the anti-immigration protesters – who were cheering Tommy Robinson’s name – from the counter rally.

It is unknown at this time how many arrests were made in the city last night.

Hull

Hundreds of protesters also gathered in Hull yesterday, with tear gas deployed on some thugs who smashed down the windows of a hotel housing asylum seekers.

Another horrific video showed thugs pushing an Asian man in a car, as they shouted ‘p***’, smashing the window as clouds of black smoke billowed overhead.

The mob of racists then dragged the man outside of his car, while someone can be heard saying: ‘Someone’s going to get hurt here.’

More video footage shared online showed a man explaining there are ‘foreigners in the car’, before anti-riot police arrive at the scene.

Later on in the chaos, a Shoezone, Greggs and O2 shop were set on fire with shoes and phones being stolen.

Mike Walker, the Assistant Chief Constable of Humberside Police said: ‘We will not accept the senseless vandalism, antisocial behaviour and sheer violence that has been brought to our streets.’

Twenty people were later arrested.

In Hull, a Shoezone was pictured with smashed windows and a raging fire inside, while a Greggs and a Specsavers had also been targeted by men with face coverings throwing stones

Liverpool

In Liverpool on Saturday – close to where the initial Southport riot took place on Tuesday – chaos was once again seen on the streets.

A community library that only opened last year after months of fundraising was set on fire as more than 300 people descended on the streets of a deprived city suburb.

As firefighters tried to put on the flames that engulfed Spellow Lane Library Hub – which also functions as a food bank – rioters threw a missile at the engine, before breaking the rear window of a nearby cab.

Shocking photos from this morning show the burnt out interior of the library, with bookshelves tipped on their side, and glass surrounding the remaining computers.

One officer was shoved off his motorbike while another was looked after by colleagues after appearing shell-shocked following a violent confrontation with a protester.

So far, 23 arrests have been made by Merseyside Police. The force said 12 were arrested for disorder in the city centre, nine arrested for disorder on County Road and two with disorder in Southport.

Leicester

A smaller but still violent protest also took place in Leicester yesterday causing police to issue a major dispersal order.

Extra officers were dispatched to help cope with the demonstration, which was said to be ‘largely peaceful’, with only two people getting arrested.

One was arrested for breach of the peace and the other for public order offences.

Leeds

In Leeds on Saturday, a pro-Palestine counter protest amassed ahead of a planned march organised by English Defence League founder Tommy Robinson.

Chants of ‘England ’til I die’ were heard and the pro-Palestine march replied with ‘Nazi scum off our streets’.

Around 400 demonstrators wore St George’s Crosses and pro Reform UK placards wearing ‘free Tommy Robinson’ t-shirts.

Leeds Art Gallery has locked its doors ‘for safety purposes’ as the clashes occurred right outside its doors.

West Yorkshire police said that several people were arrested following the protest and its enquiries are ongoing.

Stoke

In Stoke, residents were warned to be vigilant as a planned protest descended on the streets.

One man posted a video warning people to avoid Hanley Town Hall and to ‘protect your places of worship’ but ‘don’t engage them in the streets’.

‘We have enough trouble going on on this world, let’s not add to it. Stay safe and peaceful,’ he said.

Large crowds were seen gathering in Hanley shortly after 12pm, with shops in the city centre being advised to close.

Stoke-on-Trent’s MPs came together to condemn the protests in Hanley today, describing the participants as ‘far-right extremists’.

Protesters were seen facing up to police officers draped in England football flags and Union flags, and covering their faces.

Chants of ‘we hate Nazis’ by the anti-protest group were heard outside Hanley Town Hall.

Staffordshire Police said it made 10 arrests following the disorder which saw missiles flung into the air.

Nottingham

Protesters also gathered in Nottingham city centre with bottles and cans being thrown at counter demonstrators.

Rioters with St George’s and union flags in Nottingham’s Market Square have been met with counter-protesters chanting ‘racist scum off our streets’ and ‘Nazis not welcome’.

Scuffles broke out as opposing groups faced each other on King Street at about 3pm, with bottles and other items thrown from both sides.

Chants of ‘England until I die’ and ‘Tommy Robinson’ were drowned out by boos from the counter-protesters.

Blackpool and Blackburn

Far-right protesters also gathered in Blackpool on Saturday with skirmishes breaking out between demonstrators and punks.

In one clash, a man was knocked unconscious when he fell backwards and hit his head on the ground. Another man drove his motorbike at the crowd before officers arrived.

It led to police issuing a Section 34 dispersal zone in the city, writing that while it expected most protesters to ‘express their views in a lawful manner’, it said it had received information that there would be ‘some individuals intent on causing disorder’.

Minor disruption was also reported in Blackburn and Preston, with Lancashire Police arresting 20 people in total.

Portsmouth

A demonstration also took place in Portsmouth yesterday with a counter-protester saying an abusive thug hijacked a minute’s silence for the three children who were killed in Southport.

While Stand Up to Racism held the vigil thugs holding posters that said ‘Save British Youth’ jeered throughout, according to The News.

Others were seen holding the St George’s Cross while their faces remained covered in black balaclavas.
