UK Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick wrote in the Sunday Telegraph that the country “has an obligation to provide sanctuary to some of the many fleeing war and persecution”, but added that the Kingdom’s support UK is being ‘abused’ by illegal migrants who are ‘jumping the queue on small boat crossings’. In an effort to deter rising numbers of illegal immigrants arriving in the UK via small boats, Jenrick says the UK should house migrants in “simple and functional” spaces rather than hotels of luxury where they have stayed, which has led to a recent increase in “asylum shopping” by immigrants.
