On Tuesday, former President Donald Trump set his sights on a 2024 presidential run, telling a crowd of supporters in North Carolina that he “may even decide to beat them for a third time.”
The statement came as Trump made his first public appearance since leaving office in January, speaking at the North Carolina Republican Party’s annual convention in Greenville.
Trump’s comments came as he sought to reassert his role as the leader of the Republican Party and as he sought to rally his supporters for the 2022 midterm elections.
“I may even decide to beat them for a third time,” Trump said, referring to the 2024 presidential election.
The former president, who has remained popular among Republicans despite his loss to President Joe Biden in November, went on to criticize Biden’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic and the economy, as well as his foreign policy.
Trump also sought to rally his supporters for the 2022 midterm elections, urging them to “get rid of the weak Congress people” and elect “strong Republicans” who will “protect your Second Amendment, defend your borders, and stop the radical left.”
Trump’s comments come as speculation intensifies that he may seek the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential race.
While Trump has not officially announced his candidacy, he has made it clear that he is considering a run and that he believes he could win.
“I may even decide to beat them for a third time,” he said.
Only time will tell if Trump will make a third run for the White House. But one thing is certain: if he does, it will be one of the most closely watched races in American political history.
