Kansas City Chiefs' Travis Kelce received a less-than-warm reception in Game 3 of the Dallas Mavericks-Minnesota Timberwolves Western Conference finals. Kelce, along with teammates Patrick Mahomes and Hollywood Brown, were spotted courtside at the American Airlines Center. However, when Kelce was shown on the Jumbotron, the crowd responded with boos, much to his surprise.
Instead, when Mahomes appeared on the screen, the crowd cheered enthusiastically, and Mahomes encouraged them to cheer louder. The Mavericks' social media team also joined in on the fun, referencing Kelce's relationship with pop star Taylor Swift.
Kelce's relationship with Swift has been a hot topic during the 2023 NFL season, with the football star frequently seen attending Swift's Eras Tour concerts. However, some critics have expressed concern that the NFL has focused too much on their relationship during games, especially when Swift is seen cheering on Kelce from her suite.
Despite the crowd's reaction to Kelce, Mahomes was well received, likely due to his Texas roots. The 28-year-old was born in Tyler, Texas, which is about an hour and a half from Dallas, and played college football at Texas Tech in Lubbock.
The Mavericks came out victorious, with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving each scoring 33 points in the 116-107 victory, making the series 3-0. As the Mavericks aim to secure their spot in the NBA Finals, Kelce and Mahomes will continue their offseason bonding and preparation as they aim for their third consecutive Super Bowl with the Chiefs.
