As Vice President Kamala Harris positions herself as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, the liberal media is at work overtime to rewrite his record, especially his controversial tenure as the so-called “border czar.”
The media's frantic efforts to clean up his past come amid growing Republican criticism of his handling of the border crisis.
Mid 2023: “Kamala is the czar of the border”.
Mid 2024: “Kamala was not the czar of the border”.

Early in the Biden administration, Harris was tasked with addressing the root causes of migration from Central and South America. That role has been a cornerstone of GOP attacks as states continue to struggle with the ongoing influx of migrants.
However, media outlets such as ABC, CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times, TIME magazine, and Axios are now pushing him away from the title of “border czar.”
The New York Times led the charge with a July 17 article titled “Why Republicans Keep Calling Kamala Harris the 'Border Czar,'” published during the Republican National Convention.
Journalists Jazmine Ulloa and Nicholas Nehamas asserted, “Ms. Harris was not, in fact, appointed border czar, nor was she tasked with addressing the broader issues besetting the border itself.” They argued that Harris was only responsible for addressing the “root causes” of migration, such as drug violence and economic instability in countries such as Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras.
Axios joined the narrative shift with an article by Stef W. Kight lamenting how “Harris' border confusion haunts his new campaign.” Kight wrote, “The Trump campaign and Republicans have repeatedly labeled Harris with the title of 'border czar,' which he never had.”
However, Kight's earlier report contradicts this, as he once wrote: “President Biden is tasking Vice President Harris with addressing the surge in migrants at the US-Mexico border.”

The reaction was quick. Social media platform X, via Community Notes, noted Axios' previous references to Harris as the “frontier czar.” Embarrassed, Axios issued an editor's note admitting that they had previously used the term incorrectly.
Media correction is at:
– Axios eliminates calling Harris the Border Czar
– GovTrack removes the fact that Harris is the most liberal senator
– Harris was a shining example of DEI; now calling her a “DEI candidate” is false and racist pic.twitter.com/s4fLon6rj5— John LeFevre (@JohnLeFevre) July 24, 2024
NEW: “Fact-Checker” @PolitiFact has issued a fact check stating that the claim that Kamala Harris was the Border Czar is “Mostly False.”
This is called propaganda.

TIME Magazine's Vera Bergengruen also jumped on the bandwagon with an article titled, “Kamala Harris Was Never Biden's 'Border Tsar.'” That's what he really did.” TIME echoed the sentiment that Harris' role was limited to diplomatic efforts in Central America, despite his famous “don't come” message to Guatemalans.
The liberal media's attempt to erase Harris' “border czar” label is a clear effort to shield her from the fallout from the Biden administration's border failures.
