In a heated exchange on ABC's “This Week,” Byron Donalds and George Stephanopoulos debated Kamala Harris' racial identity and political record, with Donalds defending criticism of Harris while Stephanopoulos accused her of perpetuating a racial slur.
Stephanopoulos began by challenging Donald on why he and others continue to question Harris' racial identity. “And you just repeated the insult again. If it doesn't matter, why do you keep questioning her identity? She has always identified as a black woman. She is biracial. She has a Jamaican father and an Indian mother. She always identifies like both of you. Why do you ask?” Stephanopoulos asked.
A bewildered George Stephanopoulos threw a tantrum this morning over Kamala Harris' “racial identity.”
George: “I don't understand why you keep repeating it. Why is the president repeating it”
Byron: “George, I'm not actually the one repeating it… you're the one… pic.twitter.com/tJ84k24GZJ

Donalds responded: “Well, George, first of all, this is something that's actually a conversation on social media right now. There's a lot of people trying to figure it out. But again, that's a side issue, not the main issue. The main issue…”
Stephanopoulos interrupted, pressing: “Sir, wait a second, you just did it. You did it again. Why do you insist on questioning his racial identity?
Donalds replied, “George, do you want to talk or do you want me to talk?”
Stephanopoulos insisted: “I want you to answer my question.”
After some back-and-forth, Donalds defended his position by highlighting criticism of Harris' political performance. “George, now that you're done yelling at me. Let me answer. He talked about it yesterday on stage in Atlanta for two minutes. He spent over 35-40 minutes going on his record, talking about the radicalness of a senator that she was. She was the most liberal senator in the United States, that's a fact. She talked about the work that she did as the vice president of the United States, a job that I will add it's been a failure for the american people i know you like (inaudible) talk about it jokingly or seriously for a minute or so but what you don't cover is kamala harris' litany of failures. That's what you don't cover George.
Stephanopoulos challenged Donalds' focus on racial identity, asking, “So to question someone's racial identity for a couple of minutes. Is that OK?”
Donalds responded by turning the focus back to politics. “George, I'll tell you again, she brought it up. AP is the one who wrote the headline when she first came to the United States Senate, she didn't talk about her being black. She talked about her being the first Indian senator- americana. I mean, George, we could have this conversation for the entire segment, but none of that matters to the American people. We're going to have the same policies as the American people. administration of Biden Harris that have been destructive to the American people, or will we have the policies of the Trump administration, which put America first, that would be low? Inflation, prosperous Americans, regardless of the your race, no matter your color, no matter your creed, and a foreign policy that kept America safe, these are the facts that really matter, because this issue will come and go. The life of the American people is what will remain , and that's what matters more than anything else.”
Undeterred, Stephanopoulos asked, “If it doesn't matter, I don't understand why you keep repeating it, why the president keeps repeating it, why those presenting the president.”
Donalds replied: “George, I'm not actually the one repeating it. George, you're the one bringing it up now.”
Stephanopoulos accused Donalds of repeating the insult, stating: “You did it, sir, you did it. You did it three times. Every answer you gave me. Now let me finish, sir. Every answer you gave you repeated the insult”.
Donalds defended himself saying: “George, that's why I'm rejecting you now. George, you asked the question three times that I answered.
