The suspect's vehicle was discovered on Italian Cypress Trail by a 28-year-old undercover officer. Investigators suggest the deputy may have had trouble with his radio, but was on the phone with another deputy at the time of the ambush.
When additional officers arrived, they found the deputy suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and his vehicle riddled with bullets. Despite being rushed to LBJ Hospital, the deputy succumbed to his injuries. The deputy, a 5-year veteran of the HCSO and member of the Violent Person Task Force, has not yet been identified.
