Steve Bannon predicts possible Republican “civil war” after Santos expulsion vote

-

Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon believes the expulsion of Rep. George Santos (RNY) from the halls of Congress could spark a “civil war” in the GOP.

“This is McCarthy to screw up MAGA,” Bannon said Saturday, referring to former President Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), on his “War Room” podcast audience. “That's something to be muddled about [current House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.)].”

“This is 100 percent McCarthy and his henchmen trying to make our job even harder and even take most of us away,” Bannon said. “This is 1,000 percent Kevin McCarthy. … This is the device that says, 'We're going to shut down the ability to make massive cuts. We're going to shut down your ability to stop the bailout of Ukraine. We're going to shut down your ability to offset aid Israeli. We're going to stop anything you really want to do at the border.'”

“Do they want a civil war?” Bannon asked. “They have one.”

“And anyone who takes a dime from McCarthy, you're part of the problem,” he added.

“So bring it on,” challenged the former speaker.

After serving New York's 3rd District for less than a year, Santos was expelled from Congress in a 311-114 vote, the first time such action has been taken in two decades.

The ousted lawmaker has pleaded not guilty to 23 federal charges related to campaign finance, wire fraud and more, but has yet to be convicted of any crime. It's a dubious distinction. Santos is the only member of Congress to be shown the door without a conviction in hand.

“This is one-partyism” in action, Bannon said of the expulsion.

“That's corporate, that's Wall Street, that's Big Pharma, that's Silicon Valley, along with what you see coming out of Davos and Brussels with the American elite,” he stated.

“Santos is not a day at the beach,” admitted the controversial host. “He's not a guy you want to defend. But it's not about Santos.”

Bannon believes the “uniparty” will now “come after everybody, especially the MAGA guys.”

“When they roll, they roll hard,” he said. “You have Judas Pence and Judas McCarthy.”

He called Santos' impeachment “a stab in the back” for “everyone who is trying to do the right thing” in Congress.

“So it's underway,” Bannon said. “You want to roll like this, bro? Let's roll like this.”

“That's why we kicked this guy out,” he said of McCarthy, adding, “Evil, corrupt to the core.”

On X, many agree with Bannon's assessment.
