Secret Service agents protecting Biden’s granddaughter open fire on 3 people trying to get into SUV

Secret Service agents protecting President Joe Biden’s granddaughter opened fire when three people tried to get into an unmarked Secret Service vehicle in the nation’s capital.

The officers, who were tasked with protecting Naomi Biden, were with her Sunday night in the Georgetown neighborhood when they observed three people breaking a window of the SUV parked unattended, according to an official.

A Secret Service spokesman did not identify the protégé, but said agents allegedly encountered three individuals breaking a window of an unoccupied parked government vehicle in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, DC, shortly before midnight on sunday

“During this encounter, a federal agent discharged a service weapon and no one is believed to have been hit,” the spokesman said. “The offenders immediately fled the scene in a red vehicle and a regional watch was issued to support units. There was no threat to any proteges and the incident is being investigated by the DC Metropolitan Police Department and the Secret Service.”

The official spoke to The Associated Press on Monday on condition of anonymity because he could not publicly disclose details of the investigation.

One of the officers discharged ammunition, but no one was injured, according to a statement from the Secret Service. The three individuals were observed fleeing in a red vehicle, and the Secret Service informed the Metropolitan Police to issue a regional alert regarding their whereabouts.

This year has witnessed a substantial increase in the incidence of burglaries and carjackings in Washington. So far this year, more than 750 thefts and more than 6,000 reports of stolen vehicles have been reported to the district police. Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas was not physically harmed when his vehicle was stolen by three armed robbers near the Capitol last month.

In addition, violent crime in Washington has increased more than 40 percent since the previous year. U.S. Rep. Angie Craig of Minnesota was accosted at her apartment building in February; escaped serious injury with only bruises.

The nonpartisan think tank Council on Criminal Justice released a mid-year report on 30 U.S. cities for the first half of 2023. It found a huge increase in motor vehicle thefts: 33.5 percent.

CCJ remarked: “The authors conclude that crime patterns continue to change as the nation has emerged from the COVID pandemic, and that policymakers and communities must act urgently to adapt their strategies to deal with the new challenges,” CCJ said in a summary of its report. “While the level of serious violent crime is well below historic peaks, it remains intolerably high, especially in poorer communities of color.”

Biden’s granddaughter almost paid the price for the rise in crime fueled by Bidenomics in America’s inner cities. Luckily, the president’s granddaughter was unharmed.
