Second arrest in McDonald’s rodent protests related to Gaza conflict

A second individual has been arrested in connection with a series of disturbing incidents in which live rodents were thrown into McDonald’s outlets. These incidents, which are believed to be protests linked to the Gaza conflict, have taken place in Birmingham. The arrested man, aged 30, was arrested following a police appeal and is currently under investigation for his involvement in these disturbing events.

Earlier this week, another man, aged 32, was arrested in connection with the same incidents and has since been released on bail. These arrests were made after the rodents were released at McDonald’s restaurants on Regina Drive, Perry Barr and Watson Road, Nechells. A third incident which happened in Coventry Road, Small Heath, is also under investigation, although authorities believe it may not be connected.

A video that appeared on social media showed customers at the Nechells restaurant reacting in shock as the mice, dyed in the colors of the Palestinian flag, scurried across their feet. This incident is believed to be in response to social media posts alleging that McDonald’s branches in Israel have provided 100,000 free meals to Israeli soldiers and security forces following a deadly attack by Hamas on October 7 .

However, McDonald’s has vehemently denied these claims, expressing dismay at the misinformation and inaccurate reporting about its position on the war. A spokesperson for the global chain said: “McDonald’s Corporation does not fund or support any government involved in this conflict, and any actions by our licensed local development business partners were done independently, without consent or approval from McDonald’s”.

West Midlands Police have taken a strong stand against these acts, calling them horrific and intolerable. They have pledged to increase patrols in the region and prosecute anyone found guilty of such actions, while providing peace of mind to their communities.
