Only six Dems stand with GOP to stop Biden admin from housing homeless migrants on federal lands

President Joe Biden wants to house the tens of thousands of illegal migrants who have been released inside the U.S. on federal land, and only six Democrats in the House joined their Republican colleagues in blocking the move from the migrant camp.

The “Protecting Our Communities from Border Insecurity Act,” introduced by Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (RN.Y.), aims to block the “unconstitutional misuse of federal lands.”

“Turning our federal parks into camps for uncontrolled migrants from around the world is unfair to the surrounding communities and taxpayers who are forced to foot the bill while our mayor ruins our city and cuts services to our citizens,” Malliotakis said. “This crisis is unsustainable and unsafe and we are using every legal and legislative tool at our disposal, including the bipartisan passage of my legislation today, to stop Biden, [New York Governor Kathy] Hochul i [New York City Mayor Eric] Adams Administrations to take more public spaces and cut more services that are meant for our citizens.”

The legislation follows an announcement in August by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul that the Biden administration approved its plan to house 2,500 migrants at Brooklyn's Floyd Bennett Field, a historic naval air station.

“These national parks are for Americans to experience our country's natural wonders, learn about our history and enjoy the outdoors, not to house uncontrolled migrants,” House Republicans said in a Press release. “American families should not suffer loss of access to national parks because of the Biden administration's failure to take action and secure the border.”

The House approved the legislation on a 224-203 vote Thursday.

“Joining House Republicans in passing the legislation were Reps. Henry Cuellar (D-TX), Don Davis (D-NC), Jared Golden (D-ME), Vicente Gonzalez Jr. (D-TX), Mary Peltola (D-TX). AK), and Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA),” according to Breitbart.

The US Coast Guard and Navy used the federally owned airfield during World War II and it has hosted famous guests such as Howard Hughes and Amelia Earhart. Before World War II, it served as New York's first municipal airport.

Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa) noted that there are many “empty” U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities.

“Since President Biden took office, there have been more than 6.4 million illegal crossings of our southern border, including 169 on the terrorism watch list. Yet instead of implementing more border security and restoring the policies that worked, this administration is housing migrants in our schools and now in our national parks,” he said in the press release. “Meanwhile, there are ICE facilities that are empty, such as the Adelanto ICE processing facility in California.”

“This 2,000-bed facility, which is already fully funded, has been vacant since April 2020 due to a court order,” he continued. “We must fully utilize the ICE facilities we already have ready to serve migrants instead of burdening our communities that do not have adequate resources or facilities.”

According to Breitbart, the Biden administration “had pressured Democrats to oppose the legislation, claiming it would limit the powers of the Department of the Interior and the Department of Agriculture.”

Meanwhile, the “Inspector General (IG) of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) estimates that the agency releases more than 60,000 illegal aliens inside the United States each month,” the outlet reports. “Over a year, this equates to Biden releasing more than 720,000 illegal aliens inside the United States.”
