One of Barron Trump's former classmates at his exclusive Florida private school remembers him fondly as a charming, if strange, presence who was guarded by armed Secret Service agents on campus and mostly kept to himself, avoiding school sports, dances and meals in the fancy dining room.
“He would start the most random conversations and could be very entertaining,” said a friend of Barron's he told the Daily MaiI'm talking about his time at the luxurious Oxbridge Academy.
“He was also very mysterious,” the companion also said. “He never attended football games or dances. I don't think he's met anyone outside of school or gone on dates.”
“If Barron had a girlfriend, it was top secret (and) we never knew,” the classmate continued.
The 6ft 7in son of Donald and Melania Trump, who some in the MAGA world have pegged as his father's most likely political heir, graduated from the posh Oxbridge Academy in May. He enrolled there in 2021 after his father lost the 2020 election, and he and his parents moved to Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach.
Students at the small $41,500-a-year school, founded by William Koch, one of the billionaire Koch brothers, generally come from wealthy, Republican-leaning families, the Daily Mail reported. So these students were excited to learn that the son of the 45th president would be one of their classmates.
But the 120 or so students in Barron's graduating class also grew accustomed to his unusual presence, necessitated in part by his ever-present armed security and the edict of his fiercely protective mother not appearing in the yearbook school or on anyone's social networks, the Daily. Mail informed.
Barron also completed at least half of his schoolwork online, the classmate said. If he had come to the school in person, he would have arrived at 8:30 a.m. in a Secret Service SUV that would pull up just as the lobby emptied and lessons began, the Daily Mail reported.
Several Secret Service agents surrounded Barron throughout the day, and he was always accompanied by one everywhere he went on campus, even when he went to the bathroom, the Daily Mail reported. “They'll go with him and wait outside,” the friend said.
At one point, there was a 911-related incident at a nearby supermarket that closed the school, the Daily Mail reported. An officer was said to have burst into the classroom to move Barron to safety until the threat was removed.
“Many parents were concerned the school could become a target when they heard he was coming to Oxbridge,” the friend told the Daily Mail. “When he arrived he was very important and everyone wanted to meet him. But after a while it became normal.”
Barron is remembered as highly intelligent, completing a combination of rigorous honors classes, the Daily Mail reported. As much as he could, Barron also tried to match the school uniform, usually navy pants and a red or white polo shirt and sweater. He was always happy to talk about his love of soccer and the mobile game “Clash of Clans,” his teammates told the Daily Mail.
Barron would also join his classmates in the school's cafeteria, where buffet-style meals were compared to dishes at a high-end restaurant, the Daily Mail reported.
But while Barron sat with his friends, he never ate any food, the friend told the Daily Mail. “He never said specifically why, just that he would wait until I got home to eat,” the friend said. “It was a little unusual.”
Before Barron's graduation, some of his father's wealthy MAGA supporters talked him out of it in the Daily Mail in a glowing profile, describing him as the ideal heir to his father's political legacy.
“Barron is handsome, tall (even taller than his father) and very knowledgeable for someone his age,” a Trumpworld insider told the Daily Mail. “I see all the attributes of a future president if he is hungry. And why not? He's got the Trump genes.”
That same month, it was announced that Barron had been selected, along with his adult half-siblings, Donald Jr., Eric and Tiffany Trump, to serve as delegates to the 2024 Republican National Convention. Shortly thereafter, however, the Melania's office announced that she would not be a delegate after all.
“While Barron is honored to have been chosen as a delegate by the Republican Party of Florida, he regrettably declines to participate due to prior commitments,” the former first lady said in a statement.
Barron was notably absent from the RNC in Milwaukee earlier this month, but he got a shout-out from his father during his speech, accepting the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. Trump's statement — “We love our Barron” — drew big laughs from the crowd .
The teenager too made an appearance at one of Trump's campaign rallies in Doral, Fla., on July 9, where his father made it look like he was making his political debut. The presidential candidate asked his son to stand to cheers from an enthusiastic crowd, while praising his youngest son's intelligence, demeanor and growing popularity, joking that he “could be more popular” than his older half-siblings. Barron gave a standing ovation and pumped his fist in the air.
Trump also bragged that Barron had been accepted to every college he applied to and went to college in the fall. But the teenager's college plans remain a mystery, the Daily Beast reported.
