Some states in Mexico have banned the planting and cultivation of genetically modified corn from the US in recent years, in order to preserve heirloom varieties of corn (maize) that have existed in Mexico for thousands of years. years.
In 2022, Mexico proposed a ban on GM corn imports as a country, and now the US and Canada are joining forces to protest and try to force Mexico to continue importing GM corn.
The AP reported last week:
Canada joins US in trade dispute hearings against Mexico’s proposed GMO corn ban
MEXICO CITY (AP) — Canada said Friday it will join a trade dispute panel the United States requested over Mexico’s proposed limits on imports of genetically modified corn.
The US government requested that the dispute process be formally opened on June 2, after talks with the Mexican government failed to produce results.
The group of experts would have approximately half a year to study the complaint and make its findings known. Trade sanctions could follow if Mexico is found to have violated the free trade agreement between the United States and Canada.
Mexico wants to ban GM corn for human consumption and perhaps eventually ban it for animal feed as well, which its northern partners say would harm trade and violate USMCA requirements that any health or safety standard would be based on scientific evidence.
“Canada shares the US’s concern that Mexico’s measures lack scientific support and have the potential to unnecessarily disrupt trade in the US market,” Canada’s Ministry of Agriculture and Agri-Food said in a statement.
Mexico is the largest importer of US yellow corn, most of which is genetically modified. Almost everything is fed to cattle, pigs and chickens in Mexico, which does not grow enough corn. Corn for human consumption in Mexico is almost entirely domestically grown white corn, although cornmeal chips or other processed products could contain GM corn.
Mexico argues that GM corn can have health effects, even when used as feed, but has yet to present evidence. (Full article.)
For American and Canadian politicians to claim that claims that GM corn is dangerous to health “have no scientific support” is akin to saying “the science is settled” when it comes to the “safety” of the vaccines
It’s a total lie.
The science showing how dangerous genetically modified foods are, including the use of glyphosate herbicides sprayed on GM crops, is Abundant.
But similar to studies showing vaccine toxicity and harm, these studies are almost always censored or, if published, often retracted later due to pressure from Big Ag interests.
One such study was published in the journal Food and Chemical Toxicity in 2012 by French researcher Dr. Gilles-Eric Séralini:
Long-term toxicity of a Roundup herbicide and a genetically modified Roundup-tolerant corn
Summary
The health effects of Roundup-tolerant genetically modified corn (from 11% in the diet), grown with or without Roundup, and Roundup alone (from 0.1 ppb in water), were studied for 2 years in rats.
In women, all treated groups died 2-3 times more than controls and more quickly. This difference was visible in 3 male groups fed with transgenics.
All results were hormone- and sex-dependent, and pathologic profiles were comparable. Females developed large mammary tumors almost always more often than and before controls, the pituitary gland was the second most disabled organ; the sexual hormonal balance was modified by GMO and Roundup treatments.
In treated men, liver congestion and necrosis were 2.5-5.5 times greater. This pathology was confirmed by optical and transmission electron microscopy.
Marked and severe renal nephropathies were also generally 1.3–2.3 greater. Males had palpable tumors 4 times larger than controls that occurred up to 600 days earlier.
Biochemistry data confirmed very significant chronic renal impairments; for all treatments and both sexes, 76% of altered parameters were related to the kidney.
These results can be explained by the non-linear endocrine disrupting effects of Roundup, but also by the overexpression of the transgene in the GMO and its metabolic consequences. (Source.)
Big Ag was outraged and forced the magazine to retract the study.

Summary
Our recent work (Séralini et al., 2012) remains the most detailed study to date involving lifetime consumption of a genetically modified agricultural organism (GMO). This is especially true for NK603 maize for which only a 90-day commercial release trial was conducted with the same rat strain (Hammond et al., 2004).
It is also the first detailed long-term research on mammals exposed to a highly diluted pesticide in its total formulation with adjuvants.
This may explain why 75% of our first reviews that come up in a week, among editorial authors, come from plant biologists, some developing patents on GMOs, even if it was a mammalian toxicology paper, and the Monsanto company, owner of the NK603 GM. corn and Roundup (R) herbicide.
Our study has limits like any, and here we carefully respond to all criticisms of agencies, consultants and scientists, which were sent to the Editor or ourselves.
At this level, a full debate is biased if the mammalian toxicity tests of NK603 and R obtained by the Monsanto Company remain confidential and are therefore not available in electronic form for the entire scientific community to conduct independent scrutiny of the raw data.
In our paper, the conclusions of the long-term toxicities of NK603 and Roundup came from statistically highly discriminating findings at the biochemical level in treated groups compared to controls, because these findings correspond in a blinded analysis to the pathologies observed in organs, which in turn they were related to deaths by pathologists. GM NK603 and R cannot be considered safe so far. (Source.)
So, once again, the term “science” is used as a weapon to attack the truth, where REAL science should welcome debate, not suppress it.
The US corn supply is all contaminated
I have run an online e-commerce store selling healthy food and products for over 21 years called Healthy Traditions.
We began testing all the food we sold online for glyphosate and other herbicides and pesticides in 2014, when we discovered that even USDA-certified organic grains were contaminated with these herbicides and pesticides.
And if a certain food we sell has a GMO equivalent on the market, we also test the product for the presence of GMO DNA.
It took a long time to find agricultural products that were not contaminated, and today most of these products that we sell and test clean are imported from outside the United States from countries that have stricter policies regarding these herbicides and pesticides, and the use of transgenics.
The corn was the hardest to source, because literally every sample we tested in the US, even when USDA certified organic or certified GMO-free, were ALL contaminated. We didn’t sell any corn products for about two years, because we couldn’t find any sources in the US that consistently tested GMO and glyphosate clean.
We finally found a variety of white corn from a state in central Mexico, where the governor of that particular state banned GM corn, and today it’s the only corn we sell.
Mexico must stand firm against corrupt American and Canadian corporations trying to enforce their will and proceed with a total ban on imported GM corn.
Mexico is known as the birthplace of “maize,” which is its staple food, and many of its traditional varieties are already threatened by cross-contamination from GM corn imported from the US and Canada.
If the American consumer will become more informed about the quality of the food they buy and look for uncontaminated food, such as non-GMO corn from Mexico, the poorest countries in Central and South America, which still have a percentage much higher of their populations involved in sustainable and traditional small-scale production, they could find a very lucrative market in the US among the informed public that demands healthier and cleaner food.
But that will only happen if the American consumer decides to take their food shopping more seriously and not settle for cheap, contaminated, and subsidized mass-produced staples.
