After an outpouring of criticism for an interview with former President Donald Trump, an anchor in Univision’s news division has announced that he is leaving the company.

Although Leon Krauze did not conduct the meeting with Trump, which caused the former president’s critics to rant, the veteran reporter shared the news of his departure just days later.

“After thirteen rewarding years, my journey with @Univision Noticias concluded yesterday. It has been an absolute honor and privilege to be a part of this exceptional team of journalism professionals,” Krauze said in a tweet Wednesday.

The national news anchor for Univision Noticias, who was also an anchor for the company’s Los Angeles station, did not give a reason for his departure, but the moment raised eyebrows after the outcry at the network and of viewers for Trump’s interview.

“The departure comes as TelevisaUnivision faces scrutiny in the wake of Trump’s interview, with The Washington Post reporting Tuesday that Democrats were alarmed by the tone and tenor of the interview, and angry that ads that the administration of Biden had purchased to run during Trump’s interview was canceled at the last minute,” noted The Hollywood Reporter.

“The interview was conducted by veteran journalist Enrique Acevedo, who hosts Televisa’s newscast En punto, but previously worked as a correspondent for CBS’ 60 Minutes and moderated a 2016 presidential debate for Univisió,” THR. reported.

A Republican primary debate in September was co-presented by TelevisaUnivision.

When asked about Latino voters in the Nov. 10 interview that was criticized for its “softball” questions, Trump praised the company.

“All you have to do is look at the owners of Univision,” he said. “They are amazing entrepreneurial people and I like them.”

The network offered no further explanation for Krauze’s departure, though a statement was issued wishing him well.

“TelevisaUnivision expresses our sincere appreciation for the outstanding contributions, experience and insightful analysis made by Leon Krauze throughout his tenure with our news division,” the company said. “We sincerely appreciate his dedicated efforts to empower and inform Hispanic communities both nationally and locally for more than a decade. We extend our best wishes to Leon in all of his future professional endeavors.”

In a message in Spanish, the former host expressed his gratitude, saying: “I appreciate the countless expressions of support I have received from so many people.”
