US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle's attempt to explain the security lapse that opened the way for a would-be assassin left even casual observers infuriated.

Ahead of a congressional briefing on Tuesday and a hearing scheduled for the following week, the head of the agency responsible for the security of the leader of the free world and numerous other high-ranking officials sat down for a interview with ABC News.

While simultaneously trying to take responsibility while avoiding responsibility, Cheatle offered a questionable explanation for why no one was hanged from the roof that the would-be assassin used to open fire on former President Donald Trump and his supporters.

“This particular building has a sloping roof at its highest point. And so, you know, there's a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn't want to put anybody on a sloped roof,” she. explained Monday to ABC News correspondent Pierre Thomas. “And so, you know, the decision was made to secure the building from the inside.”

Based on the explanation, CEO and co-founder of The Federalist, Sean Davis, told X: “The Director of the United States Secret Service deliberately allowed the former and future President of the United States to be shot in the expensive because he didn't want a Secret Service agent has to be on a roof with a minimal slope.”

Similarly, former USSS agent Dan Bongino, who had led the call for Cheatle's resignation since the tragedy, shot back: “More fools. THEN BLOCK THE LINE OF SIGHT.”

Anyone who has seen the dramatic footage of Butler, Pennsylvania, when the suspect was neutralized by the president's security detail, could easily point out the glaring hole in the director's explanation: “… the snipers who were behind Trump during the rally were on a roof inclined”.

Since Saturday, emerging details on the lead-up to the assassination attempt indicated that security had been aware of the suspect's presence nearly 30 minutes before Trump was injured, and that law enforcement officials had seen him no less than three times before that someone was sent to check the roof.

Cheatle also addressed some of those points, explaining to Thomas, “I'm told the shooter was actually identified as a potential suspect. Units began responding to look for that person.”

“Unfortunately, with the rapid succession of how things unfolded, when the individual was finally located, they were on the roof and were able to shoot at the former president,” he said.

Despite stating during the interview that “The buck stops with me” and “This is an event that should never have happened,” the director refused to meet demands that she step down after what widely considered “absolutely catastrophic” failure.
