Justin Trudeau blames ‘right-wing thinking influenced by US MAGA’ for turning Canadian conservatives against Ukraine

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said his conservative political rival was dropping out Ukraine due to ‘MAGA influenced thinking’.

On Tuesday, the country’s 109 conservative lawmakers blocked updated legislation for the Canada-Ukraine free trade agreement.

In response, Trudeau launched a blistering attack on Friday, saying the American MAGA movement and hard-right politics were eroding support for Ukraine in Canada.

“The real story is the rise of right-wing, American MAGA-influenced thinking that has caused Canadian conservatives, once some of Ukraine’s staunchest supporters, to turn their backs on something that Ukraine needs in its hour of need.”

Trudeau also said that politicians in the United States, Europe and Canada who do not support aid to Ukraine are “starting to mimic Russian disinformation and disinformation and propaganda.”

conservative leader Pierre Poilievre, who leads all the polls, said his party did not support it because it would force Ukraine to adopt a carbon tax.

The trade bill includes language that the two countries will “promote” carbon pricing and mitigation, but has no provisions mandating such a plan.

On Thursday, Poilievre insisted he supported Ukraine and a free trade agreement, but “voted against Justin Trudeau forcing a carbon tax on this pre-existing agreement.”

Trudeau also said Friday that: “All Canadians should be concerned when the Conservative Party of Canada and Pierre Poilievre turn their backs on history.

“Turning our backs on our friends and allies, turning our backs on the rules-based international order and our support for the UN charter on territorial integrity.”

On Friday, a spokesman for Poilievre did not respond when asked by Reuters whether the leader was following Trump’s direction.
