Justin Trudeau blames ‘right-wing thinking influenced by US MAGA’ for turning Canadian conservatives against Ukraine

-

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said his conservative political rival was dropping out Ukraine due to ‘MAGA influenced thinking’.

On Tuesday, the country’s 109 conservative lawmakers blocked updated legislation for the Canada-Ukraine free trade agreement.

In response, Trudeau launched a blistering attack on Friday, saying the American MAGA movement and hard-right politics were eroding support for Ukraine in Canada.

‘To see the Conservative Party of canada Deciding not to support Ukraine with something they need under the absurd excuse that it’s because Ukraine is going to put a price on pollution is ridiculous,” Trudeau said.

“The real story is the rise of right-wing, American MAGA-influenced thinking that has caused Canadian conservatives, once some of Ukraine’s staunchest supporters, to turn their backs on something that Ukraine needs in its hour of need.”

Trudeau also said that politicians in the United States, Europe and Canada who do not support aid to Ukraine are “starting to mimic Russian disinformation and disinformation and propaganda.”

conservative leader Pierre Poilievre, who leads all the polls, said his party did not support it because it would force Ukraine to adopt a carbon tax.

The trade bill includes language that the two countries will “promote” carbon pricing and mitigation, but has no provisions mandating such a plan.

On Thursday, Poilievre insisted he supported Ukraine and a free trade agreement, but “voted against Justin Trudeau forcing a carbon tax on this pre-existing agreement.”

Trudeau also said Friday that: “All Canadians should be concerned when the Conservative Party of Canada and Pierre Poilievre turn their backs on history.

“Turning our backs on our friends and allies, turning our backs on the rules-based international order and our support for the UN charter on territorial integrity.”

On Friday, a spokesman for Poilievre did not respond when asked by Reuters whether the leader was following Trump’s direction.

Canada has the second-largest Ukrainian expatriate community after Russia and the Canadian Ukrainian Congress said in a statement it was disappointed the Conservatives voted against the trade deal.

Poilievre would beat Trudeau and likely win a majority if an election were held today, opinion polls show. One of Poilievre’s main promises is to “lift” Canada’s carbon tax if elected.

Poilievre says the price has added to concerns about the cost of living amid high inflation.

Trump, who is seeking re-election in 2024 and is his party’s front-runner for the presidential nomination, has been highly critical of US support for Kiev and has said he could end the war within 24 hours if re-elected .

A relatively small but vocal group of Republicans has criticized Ukraine’s aid for months, accusing Kiev of not doing enough to fight corruption, which Ukrainian and US officials deny.

This is not the first time Trudeau has blamed problems in Canada on the American right. having previously said they had weaponized LGBTQ rights.

Trudeau had been speaking to parents at a Calgary mosque after hundreds of Muslim parents gathered in Ottawa in June to protest LGBTQ education in schools.

Trudeau told the crowd that “social media people, especially fueled by the American right wing” were fueling the protests.

However, in the United States, at least one set of Muslim parents told Fox they were offended by Trudeau’s comments.

“I am very offended by what he said,” Binnish Mustafa, mother of a seven-year-old boy with special needs. “This is something that really hit home for us here in Montgomery County.”

He said Trudeau was ignorant of the reality in American schools, saying he “really needs to go into a public school classroom and sit there and watch the discussions that follow certain textbooks that are being discussed.” .

Another parent, Kareem Monib, told Fox that he felt Trudeau was misinformed about what was happening in American schools and was simply mimicking what his fellow liberals were saying in support of a “woke” curriculum.

“It’s amazing that Trudeau is using the same kind of silly arguments that are being used in America,” he said.
