On Thursday, the House Judiciary Committee moved forward with a resolution to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress over the Justice Department's failure to provide the requested audio recording of Joe's interview Biden with special counsel Robert Hur.
During an assessment session, the committee examined the resolution, which will now proceed to a full vote. Next, the decision to file contempt charges the assertion of executive privilege by the White House about audio and video recordings related to Hur's interviews with the president as part of a classified records investigation.

In defense of the White House's action, press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre emphasized the need to protect law enforcement files. He stated that the Attorney General had made it clear that these files required safeguarding, and the President made his decision at the request of the Attorney General.
Special counsel Hur, who released his report in February after an extensive investigation, did not recommend criminal charges against Joe Biden for mishandling and keeping classified documents. In addition, Hur explicitly stated that he would not bring charges against Biden, even if the president were not in office.

The records Hur reviewed included classified information on foreign policy and military matters, particularly in Afghanistan and other countries. According to Hur, these documents contained sensitive intelligence sources and methods.
In his report, Hur characterized Joe Biden as a well-intentioned old man with a short memory, a description that has raised significant concerns within Biden's political circle as he prepares for a possible 2024 re-election campaign.
