Juan Williams has just published his assessment of the midterm elections. He began by declaring that “there must be an award for Republicans and a separate trophy for Democrats.” Republicans deserve an award because they won. And the Democrats deserve a trophy because they lost, but according to Juan it was “an impressive achievement” nonetheless.
As someone who, for six years, made his money claiming that “Trump is killing American democracy,” Juan should celebrate that “Republican leaders on Capitol Hill are increasingly looking away from former President Trump “. But Juan is none too pleased with the change, complaining about a new leader emerging:
“[DeSantis] not my cup of tea It actually scares me.”
The reason Juan is afraid of Ron DeSantis is that the governor is proving to be a much more effective adversary than President Trump:
“His impressive 19-point re-election victory, as well as his success in attracting mega-donors like Ken Griffin, Steve Ross and Steve Schwarzman ahead of a possible 2024 presidential campaign, make him the GOP’s big winner of the year past”.
Not only does the governor appeal to his own base, but as Juan (rightly!) points out, he’s able to convert people across the political aisle to his point of view:
“[DeSantis] showed a pragmatic willingness to build bipartisan bridges.”
If you are a fair person, the ability to unite both sides of the political debate behind your vision to work towards the common goal would be an impressive feat. But for Juan and his friends outside the Democratic Party, this is a dangerous talent. If DeSantis can win the vote of Miami-Dade County, which hasn’t voted Republican in a generation, New York could be next. Next thing you know the US may have a leader who can finally unite the country, something Juan used to support:
Biden’s goal, he said, is “that most elusive of things in a democracy: unity.”
And the idea of unity makes me happy.”
Juan’s desire for unity lasted as long as a piece of bacon on Michael Moore’s plate. As soon as his man entered the Oval Office, the “idea of unity” it went out of style very quickly:
“It’s time for Democrats to take off the gloves and make the most of their limited time in power.”
Juan is a spokesman for the Democratic Party, and these guys have never wanted any part of “unity”. The Democratic Party has been hijacked by the marginal wing of the progressives, whose goal is to impose their radical agenda on the country with the iron fist of totalitarianism. And no one has been more successful in helping them than Juan’s favorite politician: Nancy Pelosi.
Juan Williams: “I called her a ‘living legend’. It ranks above any political winner for a year.”
Is Juan aware that Nancy Pelosi just lost her job? This spectacular fiasco hardly qualifies anyone for a political winner award, unless your name is Dr. Fauci. Nancy Pelosi’s defeat is a victory for the country, so if we have to declare a “winner of the year,” it would be the American people.
Earlier in his article, Juan complains about Ron DeSantis “crossing over” a bunch of agenda items. When a Republican uses their power to achieve a desired outcome, it is a dangerous totalitarian move. But when a Democrat does it, Juan says so “Unbelievable success in delivering votes.” And he does it in the same article!
Nancy Pelosi is the most divisive politician this country has ever seen. He bullied members of his own party into submission by threatening to ruin their careers. Because of Ms. Pelosi, there are no dissenting Democratic voices in the House today, and therefore no cross-party dialogue.
Here are some impressive “attacks” by Nancy Pelosi, illuminated by Mr. William:
“He led the largest expansion of health care coverage in a generation by winning passage of the Affordable Care Act.”
“He deftly steered the House through the chaos of the Trump years, successfully impeaching him twice.”
I guess the Merriam-Webster dictionary adopted a new definition of the word “successful”. I’ve always thought that “success” meant delivering some kind of mutually beneficial outcome. It is not clear to me what outcome, which is beneficial to the American people, was achieved by dragging the country through a hopelessly partisan exercise that had no hope of achieving the desired outcome, not once, but twice.
Nancy Pelosi made a mockery of the impeachment process, once reserved for single-level offenses but now destined to be used for purely partisan purposes. He wasted the country’s time knowing that President Trump would never be convicted. The latest impeachment had come just days before President Trump left office, sparking futile legal debates that dragged on for days. His impeachment cases were poorly prepared and widely ridiculed. They were a colossal failure, but for Juan Williams, taking on your own party to go along with a pointless political farce is “an impressive achievement”.
“History will look back on the Democrats’ success in Congress in 2022 as a victory over the forces that threatened the future of American democracy.”
According to Joe Biden’s speech on the eve of the election, the victory of the Republicans in the House would mean the end of American democracy. But even though Republicans won the House, Democrats are celebrating “a success and a victory.” Does Juan realize that the Republicans are now in charge of the House of Representatives?
The Democratic Party expected to lose by a wide margin. They lost by a much smaller margin than the polls suggested, but they still lost. If Republican victory ever meant the end of democracy, how does a smaller margin of victory save democracy? If Kevin McCarthy adopts Nancy Pelosi’s rule of thumb, you can say goodbye to Democracy. No matter what McCarthy’s “evil designs,” no Republican would ever go against him. I guess democracy wasn’t in much danger in the first place, no matter how the election turned out. But we already knew that, right?
Juan Williams celebrates “a victory over the forces that threatened American democracy.” And since he’s just a loyal mouthpiece for the Democratic Party, those forces will always include anyone who disagrees with the Democratic agenda. And that includes Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis, or whoever comes next.
