Amnon Shashua, one of Israel’s leading businessmen and head of the automotive technology company Mobileye, has called for the immediate removal of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government.

Shashua, in a high-profile public rebuke of Israel’s private sector, accused Netanyahu’s government of “failures, dissonance and incompetence” since Hamas gunmen crossed from Gaza in a deadly attack on cities in the southern Israel on October 7.

“We need to cut our losses and do it quickly. The only solution to the current situation in Israel is to replace the government, and it needs to happen immediately,” Shashua wrote in an opinion piece in the Calcalist financial newspaper. Netanyahu caused his own uproar on Sunday by hitting out at his intelligence chiefs, saying he was never warned that Hamas was planning his attack, but later retracted his comments and apologized.

Netanyahu’s office declined to comment on Shashua’s editorial.

Shashua, who co-founded Mobileye in 1999, said the government, which appeared more concerned with its political survival than “the good of the country”, could be replaced without calling new elections, minimizing political turmoil, with the formation of ‘a new coalition within the current parliament.

The call for Netanyahu’s ouster comes as Israel mounts a ground campaign in Gaza, with communications cut off. According to the UN, Gazans have broken into aid centers, taking flour and supplies.
