Israel clears no long-term control over Gaza; Iran launches cyber attacks; Clinton rejects calls for a ceasefire

-

Israel has announced that it does not intend to reoccupy or control the Gaza Strip for an extended period. The senior Israeli official emphasized the effectiveness of its operations and its goal of eliminating Hamas’ ability to threaten Israel. This clarification comes after concerns raised by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about indefinite control over Gaza security.

In related news, Iran has launched cyber attacks against key Israeli companies, targeting the transportation, logistics and technology sectors. Hacking groups linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps have caused site outages and attempted to wipe data from Israeli computers. Although unsuccessful, these attacks represent an additional threat from Iran.

Appearing on “The View,” former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton rejected calls for a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas. Instead, he called for “humanitarian pauses.” Clinton highlighted Hamas’ violation of previous cease-fires and emphasized the need for Israel to behave in accordance with the laws of war. He believes that a premature ceasefire would benefit those who disregard laws and human values.

In Germany, Chancellor Olaf Scholz marked the anniversary of Kristallnacht by pledging to protect Jews against a resurgence of anti-Semitism. Expressing outrage and shame, Scholz vowed to keep the promise of “Never Again.”

Moving on to military developments, the US military carried out an airstrike in Syria, destroying a weapons depot linked to Iran used to attack US bases. Since October 17, retaliatory airstrikes have been carried out in response to 42 attacks against US bases in Iraq and Syria.

Also, tensions rose in Yemen after Houthi rebels shot down a US drone, prompting further US military airstrikes.

In Gaza, the Israel Defense Forces discovered a weapons facility operated by Hamas inside a residential building near schools and a child’s bedroom. The facility manufactured and stored unmanned aerial vehicles and weapons, raising civilian security concerns.

Finally, Israeli officials confirmed the killing of Ibrahim Abu-Maghsib, the head of Hamas’s anti-tank missile unit, in a fighter jet strike. Abu-Maghsib was responsible for directing attacks against Israeli civilians and military personnel.
