House Republicans, fresh off issuing subpoenas to the Biden crime family, are following their sudden wave of action with an announcement that Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas will be fired next week.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), a conservative firebrand, is leading the movement to oust Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas, saying he “broke the law” and was to blame for the problem at the southern border with migrants.
On Thursday, he announced the impeachment resolution in the Chamber.
“[This is a resolution for] impeachment of Alejandro Nicholas Mayorkas, Secretary of National Security for major crimes and minor crimes. Resolved, That Alejandro Nicholas Mayorkas, Secretary of Homeland Security, be charged with felonies and misdemeanors, and that the following articles of impeachment be laid before the United States Senate.”
MTG previously announced its intention to remove Mayorkas.
The Georgia Republican introduced the resolution as privileged, which means that in two legislative days, the House must consider the measure on the floor. By passing a motion to postpone the resolution, lawmakers could avoid the need for a formal vote on the initiative.
“We can’t wait any longer in Washington, DC,” Green said earlier on the steps of the Capitol building.
Greene said Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX), who represents a border district, supports the resolution and will work with her to gain Republican support for an impeachment of Mayorkas.
“I hope (Johnson) supports it,” Greene said. “I think everyone in our conference and I hope that the Democrats also support the impeachment of someone who is breaking the law with his job and breaking his oath of office.”
Two of Greene’s constituents were killed in a car crash after a vehicle suspected of transporting smuggled migrants eluded police and crashed during a pursuit, he said. The resolution was later approved.
While Greene’s resolution alleges that Mayorkas “has neglected to maintain operational control of the border” and “willfully admitted cross-border smugglers, terrorists, human traffickers, drug and other contraband,” it does not elaborate.
“Alejandro Nicholas Mayorkas, by not fulfilling the oath he took, by his actions, has lost the confidence of the citizens of the United States to faithfully execute the laws of the United States,” the resolution concludes.
